Arlene M. Trautsch

Arlene M. Trautsch, age 77 of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly at home Thursday February 16, 2023. She is survived by her husband of 57 years Ron; their three sons Brian (Shelly), Brad (Becky), and Mike (Deb); her siblings Karen Morovits, Kathleen Swatek, David Rowe, and Janice Rowe; her grandchildren Nicole (Jon) Winkleski, Emily Trautsch, Marisa (Tyler) Nichols, and Shane, Eric, Brett (Elizabeth), and Brooke (Will) Trautsch; her great-grandson Carson Nichols and numerous nieces and nephews.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, February 20, 2023, at 11:00 A.M. at St. John’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, Msgr. Charles Stoetzel officiating with burial in the Evergreen Cemetery, both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call at the church on Monday from 9:00 A.M. until the time of services. Connie J. Graf

Connie J. Graf, age 74 of Bagley, Wisc. passed away Monday, February 13, 2023 at Crossing Rivers Health in Prairie du Chien, WI. She was born in Millville, Wisc. on June 24, 1948, the daughter of Elgie and Jean (Walton) Sprague. She grew up in the Millville area and graduated from West Grant High School with the class of 1966. Connie married the love of her life, Paul Graf in 1968 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Patch Grove, Wisc. Together, they farmed and raised their children in the Bagley area. Connie worked at Hazleton Cheese Factory before becoming a dispatcher for Richardson Trucking in Boscobel where she worked until retirement. She also did bookkeeping and prepared taxes for many years.

Allen Gratz

Allen Gratz, age 66, of Boscobel, Wisc. passed away on Monday February 13, 2023, at the Gundersen Lutheran Medical Center in La Crosse. He was born on June 7, 1956, in Prairie du Chien the son of Gerald and Viola (Bunts) Gratz. Allen was united in marriage to Sandra Udelhoven in 1973. With this marriage, they shared three children. Choosing to go separate ways, Allen was later married to Connie Weidemann until her untimely death and was later united in marriage to Beverly Brinks until she lost her battle with cancer.

Mildred “Mick” (Check) Zimmerman

Mildred “Mick” (Check) Zimmerman, age 88, passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Friday, February 10, 2023, at Prairie Maison Nursing Home in Prairie du Chien, Wisc. She was born May 19, 1934, the daughter of John V. and Amelia (Berntgen) Check. Mildred married her soulmate, Leo Zimmerman, on June 17, 1953, at St. Gabriel Catholic Church in Prairie du Chien. He proceeded her in death on March 27, 2022. Mildred was a devoted Catholic. Mildred worked at National Decorated Metal and later at 3M until retirement in January 1996. Mildred and Leo enjoyed taking daily rides around the Prairie du Chien countryside looking for different wildlife. They also loved traveling out West. Mildred enjoyed gardening and growing beautiful flowers. After retirement she enjoyed playing cards with fellow retired co-workers.

John L. Warland

John L. Warland, age 75 of Prairie du Chien, formerly of Turtle Lake, WI, passed away Sunday, February 5, 2023 at home surrounded by his family. He was born in Turtle Lake, WI on January 10, 1948, the son of Buster and Louise (Johnson) Warland. John grew up in Turtle Lake as the 4th generation of the Warland family and graduated from Turtle Lake High School with the class of 1966. He then completed one year of college at Concordia University before going to serve 2 terms in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home from service, he joined the Turtle Lake Police Department, where he massed over 20 years of service. He spent the last 10 years of his law enforcement career as the Chief of Police in Turtle Lake until retirement. John later moved to Prairie du Chien where he married Darla Warland on December 4, 2004.

Verlene Jane Waiss

Verlene Jane Waiss, sixty-seven, of Prairie du Chien, passed away January 29, 2023. Final disposition was performed by the Cremation Association of Wisconsin.
She is survived by her husband, Fred; three children--JoAnn Scott and Margaret Waiss of Salt Lake City, Utah, and Frederick Waiss of Berthoud, Colorado; ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
An informal celebration of life will be held at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 201 S. Michigan St., in Prairie du Chien at 11:00 AM on Saturday, February 18.

Gloria Jane Thompson

Gloria Jane Thompson, age 87 of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Wauzeka, passed away on Wednesday, November 16, 2022, at her residence in Prairie du Chien.  She was born February 9, 1935, in Platteville Wisc., the daughter of Carl and Ruth (Butson) Kienzle.  Gloria married her high school sweetheart Carl Thompson on June 15,1957, in Cuba City Wisc. Together, they had two sons, Randall Lee Thompson and Gregory Lewis Thompson.
Gloria attended country school and graduated from Cuba City High School in 1953. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin Platteville Teachers College in 1956 with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education. Gloria began teaching in the fall of 1956 at Beloit Wisc. In 1970, she received the Teacher of the Year award.  Gloria was a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and the Beloit Education Association.

Virginia Ellen MacDougal

Virginia Ellen MacDougal was born in LaFarge, Wisc. on July 8, 1933 to Randall and Lydia (Riddle) Field. Virginia graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1951. She married James MacDougal in 1954, and they remained married for over 68 years. On January 26, 2023 she succumbed to cancer, and passed away peacefully.
Virginia is survived by her daughter Julie of Hastings, MN, son Scott (Jody) of Fox Lake, IL, and son David (Rebeccah) of Minnetonka, MN; grandchildren Christy, Cailin, Erin, Kelly, Lauren and James. She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, daughter Christy, siblings Orville, Kathleen, Randall, Donald, Dorothe (Smith), Jean (Cameron), and many other friends and family.

Harry C. “Deke” Jones

Harry C. “Deke” Jones age 87 lately of McGregor, IA passed away Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor. Deke was born September 2, 1935, in Marietta Township, Wisc., the son of Willard and Elva (Miller) Jones. Harry worked as a lineman for Madison Gas and Electric for many years and was well known in our area as a musician and lover of country music. He is survived by two sons, Mark and Peter (Jane), two daughters, Cindy Jones-Petersen and Penny (Robert) Munson, his sister Beverly Ward, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Raymond J. Check

Raymond J. Check, age 68 of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly on Friday, February 10, 2023 at his home. He was born in Prairie du Chien on April 29, 1954, the son of Raymond and Virginia (Stoeffler) Check. He grew up in Prairie du Chien and worked for the Prairie du Chien School District in maintenance. Ray married Pamela Whiteaker on June 11, 1977, at the United Methodist Church in Prairie du Chien. Together, they purchased their forever home in Prairie du Chien where they would raise their family. After working for the Prairie du Chien School District, he later worked for Cabela’s until retirement. Ray enjoyed being one of Santa’s helpers at Cabela’s as well as personally for many years. He was also a pack leader in the Cub Scouts and taught Sunday school at the United Methodist Church in Prairie du Chien. He enjoyed hunting and was a history enthusiast who took special interest in the Titanic. He was also an avid Green Bay Packers fan.
