Shirley Winslow

 

Shirley A. “Squirrel” Winslow, 54, of Eastman passed away Friday, Oct. 4, at her home following a courageous battle with cancer. 

She was born Sept. 28, 1959 in Belvidere, Ill. the daughter of Lawrence and Margaret (Carter) Taylor. She married Earl Winslow on May 21, 1990, in Cherry Valley, Ill. She worked as the court clerk for Winnebago County, Ill. After moving to the Eastman area she cooked at Hubbard’s Float in Lynxville and most recently worked at The Title Company and the Black Angus in Prairie du Chien. She loved collecting squirrels of all shapes and sizes and enjoyed feeding the furry visitors in her yard.

Andrea McElwaine

 

Andrea Faye McElwaine, 40, of McGregor, Iowa died Friday, Oct. 4, at Gundersen Health Center in La Crosse. 

She was born on Nov. 13, 1972 to Raymond and Faye (Johnson) Sporleder in Greeley, Colo. She graduated from Denver Lutheran High School in 1991 and earned a Bachelor of Science Degree from Concordia Lutheran College in Seward, Neb. with a Major in Biology and a Minor in Chemistry.

Lois Marjory Ahrens-Dahlin, 92, of Prairie du Chien, died Tuesday, Oct. 1. 

She was born on Sept. 10, 1921 to Eugene and Selma (West) Chandler in Glen Haven. She graduated from Bloomington High School and earned her AA degree from Madison Area Technical College.

Kenneth Cooley

 

Kenneth R. Cooley, 46, of Wauzeka, passed away on Monday, Sept. 30, at his home. 

He was born on Oct. 20, 1966 in Boscobel, to Kenneth L. and Ruth E. (Jones) Cooley. He married Susan Kozelka on July 8, 1994 at Scared Heart Catholic Church in Wauzeka. Ken worked for Wick Homes for 25 years, first, on the set crew, later, as a crane operator, and finally, as a trim crew foreman. He loved creating a home and center for his family at Hoofbeat Ranch, and projects were always in the works for all to help with.

Alice M. Stemper

 

Alice M. Stemper, 100, was born Sept. 21, 1913 and died Friday, Sept. 27, at the Onalaska Care Center.

She is survived by her children Joe Stemper, Hokah, Minn., Mary Ann Stemper, Prairie du Chien, Al (Judy) Stemper, Onalaska, Frank (Renae) Stemper, Becker, Minn. and Carol Gautsch, Holmen. She is also survived by nine grandchildren; ten great grandchildren; three great, great grandchildren; one sister, Mary Newburg, La Crescent, Minn. and numerous nieces and nephews.

Thomas W. Gloede

 

Thomas “Tom” W. Gloede, age 82, died September 24, 2013, at Mercy Living Plus in Oelwein, IA. He was born June 18, 1931, in Sumner, Iowa to George and Elizabeth “Bessie” (Kirby) Gloede.

He married Dorothy Roth on April 14, 1952, at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein. Tom graduated from Sacred Heart High School in 1949, served in the U.S. Navy, and made his living as a salesman.

Services are Monday, September 30, 2013,11:00 AM. at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Oelwein, Iowa with Father Paul McManus, Father Pat Geary and Deacon Jim Patera officiating.

Elinor Pine

 

Elinor T. Pine, 92, of Prairie du Chien passed away Thursday, Sept. 19, at the Prairie Maison Care Center. 

She was born Oct. 19, 1920 in Turkey River, Iowa, to Mathias and Catherine (Harasche) Adams. She was one of ten children. Her early years were spent on the family farm. She excelled academically; but sadly, due to the Great Depression, she was only allowed to complete the eighth grade.

Sandra Cashman

 

Sandra J. Cashman, 70, of Boscobel, formerly of Dubuque, Iowa, and Gays Mills, passed away Thursday Sept. 19, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital La Crosse.

She was born on Sept. 1, 1943 in Dubuque to Elmer and Eileen (Hillery) Eppler. She was a married on Feb. 11, 1961 in Dubuque, to Milton Cashman, and he preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 2009.

She was employed for many years as a cook at The Red Apple Inn at Gays Mills.
