Florence Erickson

 

Florence C. Erickson, 86, of Prairie du Chien passed away Saturday, Aug. 23, at the Prairie Maison Health Center. 

She was born March 1, 1928 the daughter of Francis and Orella (Cox) Layde. She married Gayhart “Bart” Erickson on June 19, 1948 at the St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien. Florence spent her career as the Crawford County Register of Deeds until her retirement. She was an active member of St. Gabriel’s Holy Family Parish and truly enjoyed her trips to Lady Luck in McGregor.

The Reverend Gerald L. Robertson, 78, was promoted to glory with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, on Monday, Aug. 18, at the Crossing Rivers Hospital in Prairie du Chien after a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Anthony F. Konichek, 82, of West Salem and formerly of Prairie du Chien passed away Thursday, Aug. 14 after an extended illness. Funeral services were Monday, Aug. 18, at the Garrity Funeral Home Chapel; burial was in the Evergreen Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien.

James B. Coorough

 

James B. Coorough, 86, of Prairie du Chien passed away unexpectedly Sunday, Aug. 10, at his home. 

He was born June 24, 1928 in Prairie du Chien, the son of James and Carol (Budworth) Coorough. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He married Patricia Crowley on April 7, 1951. Jim retired from Wolf Machine Shop after working 25 years as a machinist. He was an active member of St. John’s Holy Family Parish, Hoffman Hall and the Eagles Club.

Neil J. Kane, Jr.

 

Neil J. Kane, Jr., of La Crosse passed away peacefully on Aug. 7, at Gundersen Health System, La Crosse.

Neil was born on Dec. 5, 1924 in Prairie du Chien to Neil and Pearl (Canty) Kane. He was the oldest of five children and grew up in Seneca. He graduated in 1942 from Seneca High School, where he was a member of the boxing team.

Neil enlisted in the Navy in July 1944 during World War II. He watched from the deck of his ship, the USS Patroclus (ARL-19), as the Peace Treaty was signed on the USS Missouri.

Jerry (Jerald) O. Johnson of Seneca, died Friday, Aug. 8 at University Medical Center in Minneapolis, Minn. with his family at his side. 

He was born to Robert Q. and Avis (Wheeler) Johnson on Feb. 21, 1944 in Prairie du Chien.

Dan McGinley

 

Dan McGinley, 71, originally from Prairie du Chien, died Aug. 9, at St. Elizabeth Hospital Hospice in Edgewood, Ky.

Dan spent most of his adult life in Alexandria, Ky., where he became actively involved in community service. He served on Alexandria City Council for seven years before being sworn in as mayor in 1999. During his 12 years as mayor, the City increased its cash reserves from $175,000 to more than $1 million; generated $4 million in grant money; and purchased its city building and its Calvin A. Perry Community Center.

Helen Harriet Hendrickson, 93, of McGregor, Iowa, died Thursday, July 31, at Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa. 

She was born on May 31, 1921, in McGregor, Iowa, the daughter of Harry and Carolyn (Zahn) Miller.
