Theresa Powers

 

Theresa M. “Tres” Powers, 101, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, Aug. 17, at Prairie Maison in Prairie du Chien. 

Theresa Marie, the daughter of John and Martha (Ness) Marking, was born Dec. 30, 1911, in Milwaukee. She grew up in Owen, Wis. and graduated from Owen High School in 1929. She went on to receive a degree from Eau Claire Teachers College in 1934 and she received a Bachelor’s of Science in Education degree from LaCrosse State Teachers College. Tres taught in the Moody, Curtiss, Neillsville, Mt. Horeb, and Beloit, Wisconsin schools. Theresa was united in marriage with Reuben Powers on Sept. 9, 1946, and they settled in Prairie du Chien.

Richard Mason

 

 Richard “Rick” Mason, 66, passed away Saturday, July 6, in Empangeni, South Africa from complications from surgery.

He was born Oct. 9, 1946, the son of Nickolas Mason and Sylva (Davis) Day. He graduated from West Grant High School in 1964. Following high school he served in the United States Air Force as an air-craft Mechanic. He worked mainly in Alaska and Hawaii, but loved sailing and was on his second time around of the world at the time of his passing.

Harley C. Scherrer

 

Harley C. Scherrer, 75, a loving husband and father, passed away Tuesday, Aug. 20, at the Grant Regional Health Center in Lancaster, after a long and difficult battle with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS).

Harley was born on Jan. 21, 1938, in Rock Island, Ill. to Charles and Meta Scherrer. He married Rosalie A. McDowell on March 14, 1959. Harley graduated from Rock Island High School in 1956. He began his long career as a carpenter with an apprenticeship at Greenleaf Construction. He worked many years as a carpenter in and around the Quad City area. Harley worked for Russell Construction for 16 years as a superintendent, retiring in 2000.

Mary Jane Hermsen

 

Mary Jane Hermsen, 85, of Bloomington, died Saturday, Aug. 17, at Orchard Manor in Lancaster. 

She was born in rural Glen Haven on May 8, 1928, the daughter of Dennis and Harriet “Sis” (Hochhausen) Rogers. Mary Jane graduated from Bloomington High School in 1946. She married Roy F. Hermsen on November 9, 1950, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Bloomington. She enjoyed bowling, dancing, bingo, playing cards and working at the family business, Hermsens Ace Hardware. Roy and Mary Jane were founders and co-owners of Holiday Haven Campground for five years, which is known today as Jellystone Campground in Bagley.

Duane Charles Delbert Lamker

 

Duane Charles Delbert Lamker, 84, of Monona, Iowa died Thursday, Aug. 15, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. 

He was born on March 10, 1929 to Alvin and Cora (Breitsprecher) Lamker in Monona, Iowa. Duane was baptized on March 31, 1929 and confirmed on March 10, 1943 at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. He graduated from Monona High School.

Doris DeMuth

 

 

Doris A. DeMuth, 83, of Dubuque, Iowa, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 14, at home, surrounded by her loved ones. 

Doris was born April 7, 1930, in Minneapolis, Minn., the daughter of Leonard and Stella (Straiton) Husted. She graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1948. Doris met and fell in love with Robert R. DeMuth, and they were married on Sept. 25, 1948, in St. Gabriel’s Church, Prairie du Chien. Their 65th wedding anniversary would have been next month.

 William “Bill” Beckett, 76, of Prairie du Chien, died Thursday, Aug. 15, at the Lancaster Care Center.

Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Garnavillo, Iowa Monday, Aug. 19.

Kim Doll

 

Kim M. Doll, 54, of Wauzeka, passed away quietly at home surrounded by her family and friends on Tuesday, Aug. 13, after a courageous fight with cancer. 

She was born Nov. 18, 1958 in Prairie du Chien, the daughter of James and Beverly (Bird) Mezera. She married Mark Doll on Aug. 17, 1985 in Wauzeka. Kim was a founding and active member of the Wauzeka First Responders, a responsibility she took very seriously. She was a generous person with her time and companionship, willing to help people no matter how she was feeling. Kim spent many hours knitting (particularly slippers). She also loved to share a freshly caught fish dinner with her friends and family.

Walter Hermsen

 

Walter “Walt” F. Hermsen, 82, of Prairie du Chien passed away Monday, Aug. 5, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. 

He was born Jan. 13, 1931 in Bloomington, the son of John and Clementine (Bohnenkamp) Hermsen. He married Eileen Crowley on November 5, 1952 at St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien. He was a very active member of the Prairie du Chien business community as the owner and operator of the W.F. Hermsen Plumbing and Heating, Inc. as a master plumber. Walt was a lifelong member of St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish, a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and served on the Southwest Tech Wisconsin Plumbing Apprentice Board from 1972 to 2004.
