Lyle Dworak

 

Lyle J. Dworak, 86, of La Crosse, died Wednesday, Feb. 19, in Bethany Riverside, La Crosse. 

He was born in Wauzeka, on July 15, 1927, to George and Maggie (Holmes) Dworak. He married Rose Marie Gentes on Aug. 7, 1948, in St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Prairie du Chien, and celebrates 65 years of marriage.

Lyle worked for the Railroad, Farm Corp Prairie. He then worked for 35 years for the Northern States Power until he retired.

Frank Allen (Butch) Ellis

 

Frank Allen (Butch) Ellis, 66, of Portage, formerly from Prairie du Chien, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Feb. 13.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, March 1, from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, with a 12 p.m. funeral service.

Jeffery Lynn Frieden

 

Jeffery Lynn Frieden, 53, of Dubuque, Iowa, formerly of Elkader, died suddenly at his home on Saturday, Feb. 15. 

He was born on Aug. 16, 1960, at the Postville Hospital, to Milo and Marilyn (DeWitte) Frieden of Elgin, Iowa. Jeff graduated from Valley of Elgin High School, in 1978. Jeff attended Lincoln Tech in Des Moines, Iowa, and graduated from the Auto Mechanics program. He worked in the parts department at John Deere for several years. He also worked as an auto mechanic and most recently as a service manager for a truck repair business in Dubuque. He enjoyed going to car races, fishing trips to Canada, boating, working on his house and spending time with family and friends.

Catherine Mezera

 

Catherine E. Mezera, 88, of Prairie du Chien passed away Tuesday, Feb. 18, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. 

She was born Aug. 12, 1925 in Murdock, Minn. the daughter of Leo and Ruby (Rosemeier) Gerlach. Catherine earned a B.S. degree in elementary education with a minor in history from Platteville State Teacher’s College and later became a middle grade school teacher in the Sheboygan Falls and Sparta Public Schools. She married Clement C. Mezera on Oct. 9, 1952 at St. Wenceslaus Church in Eastman. Together they farmed in rural Prairie du Chien where Catherine enjoyed the dairy cows and doing the farm records and bookwork. Clem preceded her in death on Aug. 25, 2008.

Robert "Bobby" William Connell

 

Robert “Bobby” William Connell, 79, of Marquette, Iowa, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2014, at the Great River Care Center, McGregor, Iowa. 

Robert was born on Jan. 8, 1935, in Iowa City, Iowa, to Frank and Elizabeth (Gallagher) Connell. Robert’s father passed away before his birth.

Walter Skaife

 

Walter D. Skaife, 96, of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, Feb. 19, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. 

He was born Aug. 23, 1917 in Waterloo Township, the son of Jesse and Carrie (Wilhelm) Skaife. He married Arleen Nagle on April 7, 1945 at St. Mary’s Church in La Crosse. Together they farmed for many years in the Patch Grove area and Walt later retired from 3M Company in Prairie du Chien. He was a talented woodworker and craftsman.

Barbara Petersen

 

Barbara K. Petersen, 74, a longtime Janesville resident, passed away unexpectedly early Wednesday morning, Feb. 12, at Mercy Hospital & Trauma Center Emergency Dept. 

She was born June 9, 1939 in Winona, Minn., the daughter of the late Harold E. and Faye V. (Withey) Clausen. On April 4, 1959 she married Adolph H. Petersen in Lynxville. They moved to Janesville, where they started their family. Barbara had worked at Prent Corp. for 10 years. Her greatest role came as wife and mother, and took great pride in being able to be a stay-at-home mom.

Eunice G. Enke, 94, formerly of Prairie du Chien, died Friday, Feb. 14, at St. Anne Extended Healthcare in Winona, Minn. She passed peacefully, surrounded by her loving family.

Thomas Foley

Thomas Patrick Foley, 28, passed away on Sunday, Feb. 9, 2014, at his home in Rochester from complications due to DuChenne Muscular Dystrophy.

Tom was born Aug. 5, 1985, in Rochester, Minn., to Steve and Cheryl (McManamy) Foley. 

Tom enjoyed spending time with his family and seeing his nieces and nephews. He would watch Twins baseball and pro-wrestling with his brother, Kent. He was a 2004 graduate of Century High School.
