Dorothy Mae (Theel) Farmer

 

Dorothy Mae (Theel) Farmer, 90, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Saturday, Nov. 7, unexpectedly at her home. 

She was born April 14, 1925, on the family farm in rural Delaware County, Iowa, to Herman and Gertrude (Tinkey) Theel. She was united in marriage to William F. Farmer on April 8, 1947, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Strawberry Point, Iowa. Four children were born to this union.

Donald M. Straka

 

 

Donald M. Straka, 63, of Wauzeka, passed away on Monday, Nov. 2, at his daughters home in Readstown. 

He was born on June 3, 1952 in Boscobel, the son of Emil and Dora (Pettera) Straka. He married Pam Burroughs on June 8, 1996 at Pikes Peak in McGregor Iowa. 

Don loved the outdoors. He especially loved hunting, fishing and camping. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends.

Dorothy M. Rolph

 

Dorothy M. Rolph, 96, of Prairie du Chien passed away Tuesday, Nov. 3, at the Prairie Maison Care Center. 

She was born July 17, 1919 in New Albin, Iowa the daughter of Alexander and Magdalena (Kroack) Woods. She married Francis “Ding” Smith in 1939 and he preceded her in death in 1959. Dorothy worked at Kaber’s Restaurant and later Farrell’s Drug Store in Prairie du Chien before raising her family. She later married Boyd Rolph in 1965, who later preceded her in death in 1995. She was an excellent cook and an avid walker.

John E. Pake

 

John E. Pake, 77, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 13, at St. Joseph’s Ministry Hospital in Marshfield. 

He was born July 14, 1938 in Prairie du Chien. John was united in marriage to Shirley A. Backes on Dec. 23, 1961 in Prairie du Chien.

He is survived by his wife Shirley; one son, Thornton (Vicki) Pake; three daughters, LuAnn (Dick) Newlun, Sue McMurry, JoAnn (Eric) Hauge; fifteen grandchildren; ten great grandchildren. He is also survived by two sisters-in-law; several nieces and nephews, many friends, and three hunting dogs.

Michael J. Holte, 50, of Prairie du Chien passed away Saturday, Oct. 31.  Funeral services will be held graveside on Tuesday, Nov. 3, at 10 a.m. at the Calvary Cemetery in Prairie du Chien, with Rev. James Weighner officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.

Ruby B. (Shedivy) Ray

 

Ruby B. (Shedivy) Ray passed away Feb. 14, 2015 in La Vegas, Nev.

She was born Aug. 12, 1925 in Wauzeka to Frank and Bertha (Graser) Shedivy. She graduated from Seneca High School. She married Clifford Lee Ray on Feb. 23, 1946 in Prairie du Chien. They moved to Janesville in 1953. Ruby worked as a nurse at Janesville Riverview Clinic until her retirement in 1984, when she and Clifford moved to the La Vegas area.

Ruby is preceded in death by her parents; brothers Carl Shedivy, Harry Shedivy, Lawrence “Rocky” Shedivy; sister Carmen Becwar; and grandson Scott.

Marie Z. McNamara

 

Marie Z. McNamara, 88, of Lancaster, died on Wednesday, Oct. 28, at Grant Regional Health Center, Lancaster.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, Oct. 31, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Clement Catholic Church in Lancaster with Reverend John Sasse officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Dubuque. Family and friends may call on Saturday from 9 a.m. until time of services at the church.

Irene Mezera

 

Irene Mezera, 93, of Prairie du Chien passed away Friday, Oct. 23, at the Great River Care Center in McGregor, Iowa surrounded by her family. 

She was born June 25, 1922 in Nottingham, England the daughter of James and Elsie (Hopewell) Whysall. She married Frank Mezera on May 21, 1945 at St. Patrick’s Church in Nottingham. He preceded her in death on Dec. 16, 2004. Irene worked at Campion Jesuit High School and the Ben Franklin Store in Prairie du Chien. She also worked as the bookkeeper for the family business, Mezera Heating and Air Conditioning. Irene enjoyed playing cards and games with her grandchildren, especially scrabble. She loved corresponding and traveling back to see her family in England.
