Paul Dohse

 

Paul R. Dohse, 60, of McGregor passed away Thursday, Jan. 16, at the Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. 

He was born March 8, 1953 in Prairie du Chien, the son of Carl and Frances (Goite) Dohse. He married Kari Corlett on May 18, 1991 at Pikes Peak in McGregor. Paul worked as a chef for many area restaurants including; The Red Cedar, The Barn and Captain’s Reef. He and Kari owned and operated the Heidelburg Restaurant in Luana, Iowa also. He was an avid Packer and Brewer fan.

James Cipra

 

 James Donald “Cips” Cipra, 67, Rockford, devoted and dearly loved father of “The magnificent seven” died at 8:30 A.M. Tuesday, Jan. 14, at his home, peacefully with family. 

He was born Feb. 11, 1946, in Prairie du Chien, son of Frank and Esther Berntgen Cipra. He married Joellyn Lindner of Marquette, Iowa on Sept. 24, 1966. He was a US Army veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He was employed at Ingersoll for 37 years, retiring in 2002. He will be remembered as a very giving man who loved his family, and was an avid Packer fan.

Roger J. Pellock

 

 A well known Prairie du Chien businessman, Roger J. Pellock, 79, passed away Friday, Jan. 17, at his home surrounded by his family. 

He was born Dec. 18, 1934 on the family farm in Eastman, the son of Jack and Helen (DuCharme) Pellock. He graduated from Seneca High School in 1953. He served in the U.S. Army stationed in Korea as a Staff Sergeant following the Korean Conflict. Shortly after he finished his tour of duty, Roger returned to the area and met, then married, the love of his life, Mary Ellen Leard on Aug. 3, 1957 at St. Gabriel’s Church in Prairie du Chien.

Violet Clark

 

Violet G. Clark, 89, formerly of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, at the Palatka Health Care Center in Palatka, Fla. 

She was born Sept. 14, 1924 in Brodtville, the daughter of Ned and Goldie (Rockwell) Yost. She married Floyd Clark on Oct. 14, 1942 in St. Louis, Mo. She and her husband owned and operated the Delta Motel in Prairie du Chien and Violet later retired from 3M Company in Prairie du Chien.

John Marvin

 

John Herold Marvin, 85, of Madison, passed away on Wednesday, Jan. 8. 

He was born on April 24, 1928, in Prairie du Chien, the son of Gladys and Allen Marvin. John was a longtime resident of Madison. He went to UW-Madison and continued to work as the Art Director at the university until his retirement. John travelled extensively to Easter Island, China, and Czechoslovakia. He was also an expert in the field of genealogy.

Virginia Eichmann

 

Virginia T. Eichmann, 77, of Prairie du Chien and formerly of Postville passed away Saturday, Jan. 11, at the Prairie Maison Care Center. 

She was born June 19, 1936 in Milwaukee, the daughter of Arthur and Cecelia (Weis) Drefahl. She married Edgar Eichmann on June 3, 1961 in Milwaukee. Virginia was a librarian for the Postville Public Library for 15 years. She was a devoted member of St. Bridget’s Catholic Church in Postville, and an active volunteer for the American Cancer Society and the American Red Cross. She was a member of the Quilters Guild and involved with Hoffman Hall in Prairie du Chien.

Bernice Cathman

 

Bernice E. Cathman, 91, of Prairie du Chien passed away Tuesday, Jan. 7, at the Prairie Maison Care Center. 

She was born Oct. 15, 1922 in Lancaster, the daughter of Joseph and Clara (Hoffman) Esser. She married Cletus Cathman on Jan. 17, 1944.  Together they farmed in the Glen Haven area until Cletus’ death in October of 1987. Bernice then moved to Prairie du Chien where she became the gardener at the Villa Louis. She loved to garden and had quite the “green thumb.” Bernice was also a great cook and enjoyed crocheting.

Violet Clark

 

Violet G. Clark, 89, formerly of Prairie du Chien passed away Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2014, in Palatka, FL. A graveside service will be held later at the Brodtville Cemetery in Wyalusing Township.  The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.

Francis Becwar

 

Francis Joseph Becwar, 75, of Montello passed away peacefully Sunday morning, Jan. 5, at Divine Savior Hospital in Portage. 

He was born in Prairie du Chien, on Sept. 17, 1938, to Joseph and Agnes (Fritsche) Becwar. He attended a country grade school and graduated from Prairie du Chien High School in 1956 and later married Janice Miller at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa on June 9, 1962.
