Bulldogs fall to Denver 53-0 in homecoming game

The MFL MarMac Bulldogs had a hard time with the Denver Cyclones defense at the Sept. 27 Homecoming game,  falling behind 40-0 at halftime before losing 53-0.

Opera House Players unite over shared passion for the theater

For the next two weekends, the Elkader Opera House Players will once again grace the stage, as  the group presents the musical “Copacabana,” featuring music by Barry Manilow.

Marquette Council discusses flea market parking, location

“I don’t want to be the subject of being yelled at about parking,” said councilwoman Mary Jo Pirc when asked at the Sept. 17 Marquette City Council meeting if she had any comments about the flea market. It was most recently held Labor Day weekend.

History abounds at Marquette’s Railroad Days


Jim Teaser, who was a railroad telegrapher for 36 years, gave a demonstration at the Sept. 21 Railroad Days celebration in Marquette. Teaser went to school to learn how to be a telegrapher. To get hired, he said a person had to be able to do 10 to 15 words per minute. “You could always tell who the operator was by the way they sent messages,” Teaser explained to event attendees. “Everyone had a different fist.” (Photo by Audrey Posten)

Bulldogs fall to Sumner-Fredericksburg 52-0

The MFL MarMac Bulldogs were shut out Friday night by the Sumner-Fredericksburg Cougars 52-0. The Cougar star of the game was Jalen Tranbarger, who had 152 yards of rushing, 10 yards receiving and 23 punt return yards, as well as three tackles and an interception returned 31 yards for a touchdown.

MFL MarMac Volleyball re-cap

Sept. 17 vs. Kee

The Lansing Kee Hawks swept the MFL MarMac Bulldog volleyball team 25-15, 25-19 and 25-16 on Sept. 17. The Bulldogs lost their sixth straight match despite a 12 of 13 serving performance by Jillian Haberichter and six kills by Lexi Dettbarn. Ashley Heins added five kills and Alison Thurn and Bailey Boland managed seven digs.

Volleyball shows improvement in four match defeats
