Iowa farmland values at historic high

After several years of modest gains and losses, the average value of an acre of Iowa farmland skyrocketed 29% in 2021. The nominal value of an acre of farmland is now higher than at any point since Iowa State University and Iowa State University Extension and Outreach began surveying values in 1941 and is 12% higher than the previous peak in 2013; although the current value in inflation-adjusted terms is still lower than that for 2012 and 2013.

Donna Simon of Guttenberg is currently recovering from a successful double lung transplant,and has agreed to share her journey to wellness with The Guttenberg Press. 

"365 days – one year. Do we ever think about how much our lives can change in 365 days?" Simon asks. "2020 was a year with a lot of ups and downs for everyone with COVID-19 playing a big part in everyone's lives."

The Knights of Columbus was founded by Venerable Father Michael J McGivney at St. Mary's Church in New Haven, Conn. in 1882. It is the world's largest lay Catholic organization, with more than 2 million members worldwide. The 130-year-old organization's original intent was to provide welfare and security for families during times of sickness and death. It has grown throughout the years, and the Knights donated more than 70 million volunteer hours and $158 million to charitable entities.

On Oct. 9 Andrew Johnson of Garnavillo was promoted to 9th dan black belt following a successful test of advanced physical and mental acuity at Jung's Tae Kwon Do Academy in Cedar Rapids.  

A fellow student first introduced the dedicated Tae Kwon Do practitioner to martial arts in college. In 1981, he began his formal training in northeast Iowa with Roger Clarke, who opened up a branch dojang in Elkader, a short drive from the Johnson family farm.

A columbarium is a structure for the respectful storage of cremated remains of the deceased in funerary urns. They can be free standing units, or part of a mausoleum or other building.
