Crossing Rivers urges taking precautions for the holidays and after

On Friday, Nov. 20, Governor Tony Evers signed Executive Order #95 declaring a State of Emergency and Public Health Emergency, and he reissued Emergency Order #1 requiring individuals over the age of 5 to wear a face mask while indoors or in an enclosed space with those outside their household.

Regional public health issues emergency alert, urges people to celebrate small for Thanksgiving

As COVID-19 cases continue to rise across the country and Wisconsin, the Southern Region Public Health Officers are issuing a Public Health Emergency COVID-19 Alert to urge residents to follow good public health practices this holiday season. Public health officers stress that it is safest to celebrate upcoming holidays with the people in your immediate household and not risk gathering with others. Traveling, hosting guests indoors, and sharing food, utensils and plates all pose significant risks, they warn.

Crawford County COVID-19 positives surge with nearly 300 inmate cases at correctional institution


The Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution reported 283 active cases of COVID-19 Tuesday among its inmates, plus 65 among its staff (living in multiple counties). The Tuesday Crawford County positive case count jumped from 862 to 1,158, which also includes other county residents aside from inmates.

Another search warrant conducted related to recent thefts

On Tuesday, Nov. 17, at 9:32 a.m., the Prairie du Chien Police Department, with the assistance of the La Crosse County Sheriff’s Office, executed a fourth residential search warrant in the township of Medary La Crosse. This search warrant was also related to the numerous thefts within Prairie du Chien and Crawford County that occurred over the past month. During the search of the residence, investigators located stolen firearms and ammunition.

Wauzeka man charged with several meth-related counts

A 27-year-old Wauzeka man was charged on Nov. 16 in Crawford County Circuit Court with one count of possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine, one count of felony bail jumping, one count of carrying a concealed weapon, and one count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
