Local theaters back in business as Hollywood starts rolling

Prairie Cinema manager Jessica Pitzer and her fellow staff are anxious to fill the theater with patrons again, at least to a socially distant capacity.

Customers are encouraged to buy their tickets and reserve theater seating online. With every other row unavailable and a buffer of two seats between each party, this ensures a preferred spot to the movie of choice. (Photos by Correne Martin)

In the auditoriums, the cinema staff have labeled each row by letter, and each seat by number, to help direct patrons to their reserved seats.

Spring is here, and wildlife viewing is popular

With the arrival of spring, there have been many wildlife viewers and photographers out enjoying Crawford County in recent days. Wildlife viewing opportunities can be found throughout the county and in neighboring counties. Above, pelicans cruise Gremore Lake looking for fish. (Photos by Ted Pennekamp)

Whitetail deer seem to be everywhere, and are enjoyable to watch.

A whitetail deer trots towards the woods.

Bald eagles remain as popular as ever, and many people have been out with their binoculars lately. This one was along County K north of Prairie du Chien, along with numerous other eagles, seagulls and waterfowl.

One of the features that distinguishes a trumpeter swan (above) from a tundra swan is that the black coloration in front of the eyes doesn’t pinch down. From a distance the eyes blend in. The eyes are more distinct on a tundra swan, especially when viewed head-on.

This pair of trumpeter swans is in the pond/marsh on the Crossing Rivers Health property for the third straight year.
