Darwin Duwe playground equipment fundraiser

Darwin Duwe 1959-1982

The late Darwin Duwe of Guttenberg was an avid baseball player and fan. He was a member of the Guttenberg Jaycees and dedicated his time to Little League. Darwin was employed with Mid-America Transportation Corp. as a deckhand on the Ann King when he slipped off the barge and drowned in January 1982. He was 22 years old.

The Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce is hosting the United States Army Golden Knights Parachute Team on Sunday, Aug. 23, at 2 p.m. sharp! The event is set to take place at Stephen D. Shannon Memorial Athletic Complex located west of the Marina Road in north Guttenberg. There is no admission fee for the performance, and everyone is welcome. Those in attendance are asked to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.

The Guttenberg city council heard an engineer's update on current projects,  listened to objections regarding a proposed boat trailer parking ordinance change, and approved a new contract with the city's current waste hauler, Kluesner Sanitation.

Ramona G. Balk

Ramona G. Balk passed away on July 16, 2020, after a month-long struggle with corona virus.

She was born on Oct. 6, 1952, in San Diego, Calif. Ramona married Dean Balk on March 7, 1970. While Dean was in the Navy, they traveled the world together for 22 years, until he retired in October 1990. They then made their home in Torrance, Calif. She was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother and friend.

The small village of Hlebine, situated in the northern part of Croatia, is often referred to as the cradle of Naive Art. The distinctive style of painting is one of the most unique attractions Croatia has to offer. The artist community is home to the Hlebine School of Naive Art and Hlebine Naive Art Gallery.

Charles “Chuck” E. Peterman

Charles “Chuck” Eugene Peterman, 71, of Elkader, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2020, at the Guttenberg Hospital.

A private family Mass was held, conducted by Rev. John Haugen.

Inurnment will be held at a later date.

Leonard Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Elkader assisted the family.

Lillian Handke

Lillian Handke, 93, departed peacefully from this earth at the Edgewood Convalescent Home in Edgewood on Sunday, July 26, 2020, very much enveloped at the time of her passing by the immeasurable love of her large and devoted family.

A private funeral service was held at the City Cemetery in Guttenberg on July 30. She was laid to rest beside her husband.

Diane Baumgartner, a Licensed Independent Social Worker (LISW) and Certified Clinical Trauma Specialist (Individual) opened her new business on July 6, 2020.
