Lawrence C. Linderbaum

Lawrence C. Linderbaum, 100, passed away on March 23, 2021, at the Guttenberg Municipal Hospital surrounded by family.

Visitation will be held on Friday, April 9, from 5-7 p.m. at the Leonard – Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona and one hour before services at the funeral home on Saturday. Due to COVID-19, masks and social distancing are required.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 10, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home, conducted by Rev. Lynn Noel.

Living a van-tastic life on the open road

Molly Falck was born and raised in Arlington. She grew up a few miles away from her boyfriend and traveling companion, Clayton Schaefer, when he and his parents were living in the area when Clayton was a young boy. The 23-year-old studied massage therapy in Anamosa, at Carlson College of Massage Therapy, and then worked at Hands in Harmony before traveling. She was a seasonal massage therapist in California and Colorado while living in her first van.

County vaccine update and wait list information

The Iowa Governor’s Office announced that effective on Monday, April 5, all Iowans became eligible to receive a COVID-19 vaccine. 

Depending on the vaccine manufacturer, individuals age 16 or older could be eligible. Pfizer is currently approved for use in those age 16 and older; while Moderna and Johnson & Johnson are approved for those over age 18. Previously eligible groups, including those over age 65 and those with high-risk health conditions, will remain vaccine eligible.

Patricia Niehaus

Patricia Niehaus, 89, of Guttenberg, died Sunday, March 21, 2021, at Guttenberg Care Center.

Burial will be held at a later date.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Pat was born the daughter of George and Pearl (Chettinger) Auer on Oct. 11, 1931, in Garnavillo.

Curtis E. Kraus

Curtis Edward Kraus, 66, of Postville, died Sunday, March 21, 2021, at his home in rural Postville.

Visitation was Friday, March 26, at Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Monona and before services at the church on Saturday.

Funeral services were Saturday, March 27, at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, conducted by Pastor Jeremy Wolfe.

Sharon Berns passed away peacefully on March 25, 2021, with her family by her side.

Given the current pandemic and in respect for her dedication to community health, there will be a private graveside service for immediate family at St. Joseph Cemetery in Garnavillo.

Eunice M. Zearley

Eunice Mae Zearley, 98, of Guttenberg, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 26, 2021, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Private family graveside services will be held.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Eunice was born on Nov. 22, 1922, to Raymond and Pearl (Henry) Zearley.

Historic preservationist reflects on restoration career

Local historic preservationist Gary Goyette, who plans to move to New Mexico in the near future, recently looked back on his career and his time in Guttenberg.

Goyette was born in 1945 in Wausau, Wis. He was raised in Hartford and Mayville, Wis., during his formative years. His interest in architecture and historic buildings became a focus after he graduated from high school in 1964.

County Board of Health issues reminder

The Clayton County Board of Health last week issued a reminder t0 county residents, towns and businesses about the importance of continuing efforts to prevent the spread of COVID-19. 

"These continued efforts to protect the community from illness include the following measures," said a spokesperson.

•Continue to wear masks when around others who do not live with you.
