Umbrella Arts River of Music 2021 summer concert series

Guttenberg Umbrella Arts members are once again hosting their popular River of Music (ROM) concert series. All concerts are free and held on Friday evenings beginning June 4 through Aug. 7, from 6-8 p.m., with the exception of July 2, which will be held from 6-9 p.m., kicking off Guttenberg's Stars and Stripes celebration.  Musicians will perform under the band shelter located in Ingleside Park at the intersection of China Street and North River Park Drive.

Guttenberg Library Foundation book sale

The Guttenberg Library Foundation is pleased to announce it has scheduled its 2021 Book Sale for Friday, June 4, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the library. Donated materials will be accepted until Friday, May 28. Due to COVID concerns, there will be no accompanying bake sale this year.

Four projects planned at GMHC this summer

Improvements at Guttenberg Municipal Hospital & Clinics will involve four construction projects this summer. 

Plans call for the remodeling of the operating room suites and areas of Cornerstone Family Practice Clinic. Also scheduled is an upgrade to the hospital's MRI machine, which will require construction on the north side of the building. The fourth project is landscaping on the south side of the hospital, which will include new sod.

Nolan S. Hollaway

Nolan Scott Hollaway, 13, of Guttenberg, completed his earthly journey on April 19, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital and Clinics, in the loving arms of his mother.

To honor Nolan’s life, a private family service is being held at a later date.

Arrangements were handled by The Tri-State Cremation Center.

Neil D. Morarend

Neil Delois Morarend passed away Friday, April 16, 2021, at the Strawberry Point Lutheran Home.

Visitation was Wednesday, April 21, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg followed by a memorial service. 

Burial will be at a later date.

Dave Brown Jr., relinquished his successful car dealership into the capable hands of his sons, David and Forest, and began to focus his attention on his new business venture, "Dave Brown Classic Rides," in January of 2020. The classic car showroom and offices are located in the former Chevrolet garage at 102 Schiller Street in Guttenberg. "The restoration is done right here by our highly-talented staff. These guys are artists!" Brown exclaimed.

City-wide garage sales set for June this year

City-wide garage sales will be held in Guttenberg this year on Friday and Saturday, June 4-5.

Last year, due to pandemic concerns, the schedule broke with the traditional date of the first weekend in May and was held the first weekend in June. 

The event will be coordinated by The Guttenberg Press. Watch upcoming issues for information on placing an ad in the garage sale listing. The ads will appear in The Press and in The Trader.

Chad M. Kuehl

Chad Michael Kuehl, 45, of Garber, died Saturday, April 10, 2021, at the University of Iowa Hospital due to complications of COVID-19.

Visitation was Wednesday, April 14, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before service at the church.

Funeral services were Thursday, April 15, at St. John’s Congregational Church in Garber, conducted by Rev. Pam Reinig.

Donna M. Thein

Donna M. Thein, 89, of Guttenberg, died Saturday, April 10, 2021.  

Private family services will be held.  

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Donna was born in Guttenberg on April 3, 1932, the daughter of Edward and Elsie Winch.
