Finley appointed to NICC Distrct 5 board of trustees

Three new members recently joined the board of trustees of Northeast Iowa Community College. Two were elected by voters—  Kent Nelson of District 4 and Gary McAndrew of District 6. The Board appointed the third new member, John Finley, to fill the District 5 vacancy at its Nov. 15 meeting. 

The Clayton Ridge School District forms part of District 5. Finley was appointed to fill the seat vacated by former board chair Ken Reimer’s retirement.

Local historian recalls bustling business district

In the past, Guttenberg had a very active business district that included a wide variety of stores offering goods and services. Local historian Joe Ihm recently recalled each business and its location on a walking tour of the community’s historic downtown district. His tour began at the corner of Pearl Street and River Park Drive traveling south.

Shepherd of the Hills Ministry Christmas Just 4 Kids

Shepherd of the Hills Ministry is again sponsoring its annual Christmas Just 4 Kids Project. This is a combined effort of many, including Toys for Tots – Dubuque, numerous area churches, businesses and individuals, Clayton County Agencies and workers, along with many generous donors near and far.

The Holiday Shop will be stocked with NEW gifts of toys, games, books, puzzles, quilts, pajamas, etc. The response of donors and the children who receive these gifts is overwhelming. The families are overwhelmed with a sense of joy and delight in choosing items their children are in need of or want.

Daniel W. Roling, 82, of Luxemburg passed away Wednesday, Nov. 10, 2021, at his home.

Visitation was Sunday, Nov. 14, at Kramer Funeral Home, Dyersville and before services on Monday at the funeral home.

Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 15, at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Luxemburg, conducted by Rev. Noah Diehm.

Bradley Moser

Bradley Moser, 68, left this life peacefully on Nov. 10, 2021, after a 13 year courageous struggle with Huntington’s Disease.

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 18, at Hoffmann Schneider & Kitchen Funeral Home, Dubuque. 

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Friday, Nov. 19, 2021 at St. Columbkille Catholic Church in Dubuque.

The Guttenberg Brewing Company held its groundbreaking ceremony at 530 South First Street in Guttenberg on Oct. 29. Mayor Bill Frommelt welcomed guests followed by remarks from Austin Coon, Guttenberg Economic and Industrial Development Commitee; Michelle Geuder, Guttenberg Chamber of Commerce; Andy Reimer, Foundation of Cornerstone Communities and Kathryn Klaes, Guttenberg Brewing Company owner.

Naomi Klinge, who recently turned 96, was the youngest of three children born to Otto and Anna (Augusta) Siebrecht. She and her brother, Valmah, and sister, Alice, grew up on a general farm near Garnavillo.

City council approves Bender property sale

The Guttenberg city council, meeting in regular session on Nov. 8, authorized the sale of property at the corner of Schiller Street and Highway 52, to Allen Rental Company, LLC, for $54,000. The action came on a 4-1 vote with councilmember Mick Pierce, who voted against the resolution, saying that he thought the price was "way too cheap."

Funeral services were Wednesday, Nov. 10, at Gospel Hall in Garnavillo. Private family burial followed the funeral service.
