Council hears proposal for grant application

At the regular monthly meeting on June 13 the Guttenberg city council heard a presentation on a proposed grant project, listened to resident concerns on various topics and okayed the purchase of a new bucket truck.

Mayor Fred Schaub led council members Mandy Ludovissy, Austin Greve, Jane Parker, Steve Bahls and Michelle Geuder through the evening's agenda. City Manager Denise Schneider was also at the council table.

Bill was born July 16, 1941, the son of Lawrence “G.I. Joe” and Cleva (Clinton) Miller, in McGregor.

Emma Jo Lindsay, 10, of Manchester, passed away on Thursday, June 2, 2022, at Regional Medical Center in Manchester.

Visitation was Friday, June 10, at Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service, Manchester. 

Funeral services were Saturday, June 11, at Immaculate Conception Church in Masonville, conducted by Reverend Gabriel Anderson.

Roland Edward Doerring, 89, of Elkader, formerly of Garnavillo, died Sunday, June 5, 2022, at the Elkader Care Center surrounded by the love of his three daughters.

Visitation and funeral services were Friday, June 10, at Norway Lutheran Church in St. Olaf, conducted by Rev. Marshall Hahn.

Burial with military rites was at Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, rural Farmersburg.

Umbrella Arts (UA) Outdoor Musical Instrument (OMI) project has been approved by the Guttenberg City Council, Park Board, and OMI Advisory Group. The project is spearheaded by UA members Vicki Rodenberg, Becky Shaffer and Juanita Loven, and Ingleside representative and OMI project chair Jane Staebler.

The Iowa Café is a new innovative partnership between Iowa's Area Agencies on Aging and licensed food service establishments like restaurants, food trucks, cafes, convenience stores, and grocery stores with hot and cold food options. Every menu is approved by a dietician to meet one-third of the daily nutrition needs for an older person.

Primary election results for Clayton County

On Tuesday, June 7, registered Democrats and Republicans in Clayton County voted in the primary election to choose their party's nominees for the general election in November. 

Voters in a primary election must register as a Democrat or Republican in order to choose their respective party's candidates. In Clayton County, there were 1,363 Republicans and 660 Democrats who went to the polls, for a total of 2,023 voters.

Visitation and funeral services were Tuesday, June 7, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home, Edgewood.

Interment was at Zion Cemetery, Colesburg.

There will be a private celebration of life at a later date.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.
