Music lineup for GermanFest

The Guttenberg GermanFest committee has a great lineup of musical entertainment for this year's celebration to be held Sept. 23-24, featuring both old and new favorites.

Barefoot Becky and the Ivanhoe Dutchmen will kick off the festival, playing from 6-10 p.m. Friday evening in the main festival tent. The four-piece polka band has been a crowd favorite at previous celebrations.

Local weekend events in Clayton County

Enjoy the upcoming September weekend by attending two popular annual events in southern Clayton County.

The Northeast Iowa Farm and Antique Association will present the 41st annual Plagman Barn Show Days on Sept. 16-17-18. The show grounds are located at 28384 Garber Road (C7X) 10 miles west of Guttenberg. The event features demonstrations on early farm and home practices and techniques, plus food, music, and other activities for the entire family.

Rosemary S. Menke

Rosemary Susanna (Wille) Menke, 92, of Dyersville and formerly of Luxemburg, was called to heaven on Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at MercyOne Senior Care in Dyersville.

Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 2, at St. Francis Xavier Basilica in Dyersville. Visitation was before services at church prior to funeral mass.

Burial was in Holy Trinity Cemetery in Luxemburg.

William D. Bishop

William Duane Bishop, 89, of Lincolnwood Assisted Living in Edgewood passed away on Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, in the care of Above and Beyond Hospice.

Memorial services will be Saturday, Sept. 10, at 10:30 a.m. at the Stone Church, formerly the Cornerstone Church, in Manchester. A Celebration of Life along with lunch will follow the service at the church.

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Shirley M. Tackman

Shirley Mae (Radabaugh) Tackman, 79, of Guttenberg, died Monday, Aug. 29, 2022, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.

Visitation was Thursday, Sept. 1, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Friday, Sept. 2, at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Michael Ashman.

The Teacher Leadership and Compensation (TLC) System rewards effective teachers with leadership opportunities and fosters greater collaboration for all teachers to learn from one another.

City hires CV/Chamber director

The Guttenberg city council, at a special meeting on Aug. 29, hired Brandie Tomkins to fill the Community Vitality/Chamber director position.

On hand for the special meeting were Mayor Fred Schaub, City Manager Denise Schneider and councilmembers Mandy Ludovissy, Austin Greve, Jane Parker, Steve Bahls and Michelle Geuder.
