Alan Edward Philbrook, 59, of Gunder, passed away on Wednesday, Sept. 21, 2022, at Gundersen Palmer Lutheran Hospital in West Union, after a battle with cancer.

Graveside services were Monday, Sept. 26, at Bethel Cemetery in rural Osterdock, conducted by Pastor Roland Waterman. 

Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Strawberry Point assisted the family.

Willi Chalmer Buerger, 85, of Garber, passed away on Thursday, Sept. 22, 2022, at his home.

Visitation was Monday, Sept. 26, at Leonard-Muller Funeral Home in Edgewood.  

Memorial services were Tuesday, Sept. 27, at St. John Congregational Church in Garber, conducted by Pastor Pete Buschmann.

Beverly Jane Elsinger of Guttenberg passed away suddenly at the age of 83 on Sept. 18, 2022, at UIHC.

Visitation was Wednesday, Sept. 21, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and before services at the church. 

Funeral services were Thursday, Sept. 22, at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Marvin Bries.

$10,000 prize winning hole-in-one

Each year, Clayton County SART (Sexual Assault Response Team) holds their annual fund-raising golf tournament at the Guttenberg Golf and Country Club. Prior to the start of the tournament, organizers register a hole for the Hole-in-One $10,000 prize giveaway. The opportunity to win the cash prize is a long shot (no pun intended), but this year former Clayton Ridge industrial arts teacher Bill Leonhart was lucky enough to win the highly coveted prize money.

Meeting set for Oct. 11 on historic design guidelines

The Guttenberg Historic Preservation Commission is excited to announce that they received a Certified Local Government grant from the State Historic Preservation Office and National Park Service to develop Design Guidelines for the Front Street Historic District.  

A public meeting will be held about the project on Tuesday, Oct. 11, at 6 p.m. at the Guttenberg Municipal Building (third floor auditorium).  Any interested local resident is invited to attend.

Mickey J. Phillips, 62, of Farmersburg, died Thursday, Sept. 15, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family following a battle with pancreatic cancer.

Visitation will be held from 1-3 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 24, at Becker and Son Funeral Home in Hawkeye.

Private family burial will be at Hawkeye Cemetery.

Charlene G. Andregg, 93, of Guttenberg, passed away Sunday, Sept. 11, at the Edgewood Convalescent Home. 

There will be a private family service at a later date. 

Arrangements were handled by Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg.

Helen King

Helen King, 99, wife of the late Jay King, passed away on June 2, 2022, in Hartford, Conn. surrounded by her family.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Sept. 24, at 11 a.m. at Beecher and Bennett-Flatow Funeral Home, Meriden, Conn.

She will be privately laid to rest with her husband Jay at the CT State Veterans’ Cemetery.
