Dr. Raul Ruiz served as Guttenberg’s surgeon for 14 years, from 1992 through 2006. He now resides in Waterloo with his wife, Mari, but has fond memories of time spent with the doctors of Guttenberg and their families.

For over a decade prior to relocating to Guttenberg, Ruiz lived and worked in Eldora. Tim Wick, who was CEO of the hospital at that time, sent Dr. Ruiz a postcard with a picture of Guttenberg. “I decided to come because I wanted to do only surgery. The doctors were very nice, that was also part of the decision,” said Ruiz.
