Borghild “Borgie” Therese (Myhre) Tuecke, 104, of Guttenberg, was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, March 30, 2018, from Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.

Visitation was Monday, April 2, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 3, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson.

Marcia J. Fox, 65, of Cave Springs, Ark. passed away in her home on March 9, 2018.

A celebration of Marcia’s life, including a graveside service at the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery, will be held in Iowa in August. Arrangements were handled by Benton County Funeral Home, Rogers, Ark.

Marcia was born Aug. 13, 1952, in Oelwein, the daughter of LuRoy D. Fox and Ethel E. Lane.

The first step in fire protection for Guttenberg came in 1877, when the town council authorized the purchase of its first piece of fire equipment – a hand-operated pump with hose and fittings, purchased for a total of $380. On May 5, 1882, the Guttenberg Fire Department was officially created.

The five-member board of Guttenberg Municipal Hospital and Clinics is tasked with keeping the community’s most essential resource thriving. “The hospital is a major institution in the community and each board member sees that and wants to make sure that the institution is healthy and that the community is healthy,” said board chair Karen Merrick. “It’s a municipal hospital, and the people who run it have a real responsibility to the community as a whole.”

City council approves budget

The Guttenberg city council at its regular monthly meeting on March 12 approved the budget for the coming fiscal year, discussed railroad issues and heard a request for street improvements.

Mayor Bill Frommelt led councilmembers Austin Greve, Fred Schaub, Virginia Saeugling, and Jane Parker through the evening's agenda; also on hand was city manager Denise Schneider.

Reed describes the atmosphere of Reed’s Steakhouse and Grill as upscale, yet family oriented. Her goals are excellence in food and service, consistency, and an emphasis on homemade foods.
