State fastpitch tourney plays in PdC, Eastman

Lifetime Seamless Gutters defeated the Hustle Hogs from DeKalb, Ill., 8-4, Saturday in Eastman. Pictured, centerfielder Tyler Ritchie catches a fly and then fires it to first base to catch the runner before he could get back to the base. Also, Peyton Hall moves on to second, halfway through the contest.

Winners of the AA tournament were the AHI Reapers, from Kimberly. The Optimum Crush, from Kenosha, took home the trophy in the A/A-Major tournament, which featured numerous local teams.

The 2022 Henry St. Clair Memorial Championship Tournament of the Wisconsin North American Fastpitch Association was held July 15-17 at the St. Feriole Island Prairie du Chien and Eastman ballparks. It was an opportunity of a lifetime for both ballparks to host this tournament, which featured both the men’s AA and A/A-Major tournaments.

William 'Bill' Howe

The soul and spirit of William “Bill” Henry Howe departed his earthly body, at his home, on Friday, July 22, 2022, with his late life companion and family by his side. Bill was extremely active at the age of 99 until a fall resulting in a concussion and complications hastened his passing. Bill set a personal goal of reaching 100 years of age and he had a fair chance at it, if not for his fall.

Badger Boxes feed local families in need

Pork, eggs and milk were bagged individually to be loaded into the vehicles of those taking home the Badger Boxes July 13. (Photos by Correne Martin)

A line of cars stretched all the way down Wacouta Avenue for several blocks from the food pantry.

Pictured is just half of what each family of four took home thanks to the Badger Boxes distribution from the Hunger Task Force of La Crosse.

Prairie du Chien Correctional Institution project crew members, and volunteers from the Couleecap Food Pantry helped unload the semi of food.
