40th annual Carriage Classic postponed to 2021

Due to the global pandemic and restrictions on gatherings and festivals, the organizing committee of the Villa Louis Carriage Classic has decided to postpone its 40th Annual classic to Sept. 10-12, 2021.

Class of 2020 graduations happening soon locally

Local high school graduations ceremonies were postponed in May, amid fears of spreading the coronavirus. But schools have these pivotal events back on their calendars for late this month into July.

Leading the charge is Wauzeka-Steuben, which has scheduled its Class of 2020 recognition for Saturday, June 27, at 11 a.m., on the high school football field.

276 COVID-19 tests administered, 1 positive at community event

Vehicles line up in two drive-through lanes for the community COVID-19 testing conducted by the Wisconsin National Guard Friday in Prairie du Chien.

National Guard and public health officials question one individual about to be tested. A few personal questions were asked of each person in order for officials to be able to relay their results.

Bert was born on Oct. 27, 1940, to Bert and Eliza Bruehahn in Monona, Iowa.

A memorial service will be Thursday, June 18, at 11 a.m. at the Bible Baptist Church in Prairie du Chien.

Crews searching for missing person in the Mississippi

Emergency crews are searching for a missing person near Gordon’s Bay boat landing near Lynxville Sunday.

According to the news release, emergency crews responded to a call at 3:15 a.m. about reports of a missing person near the Gordon’s Bay boat landing.

The Crawford County Sheriff’s Office said a group of individuals were camping at a nearby island, when one person from the group attempted to swim from shore to the campsite.

Officials said individuals involved in the camping group called 911 and also attempted to locate the missing person.

Multiple police, fire, and emergency crews were called to the scene and are currently searching the area by land, water and air.

This is still an active and ongoing investigation, the report said.

Former PdC student develops mind and body fitness website


Alison (Brady) Weinlaeder spent a good portion of her childhood in Prairie du Chien. She’s now a speech language pathologist in St. Paul, and has developed a new brain and body fitness website: Cardiomelon.

Cardiomelon trainer Suzy Levi demonstrates alternating leg lifts and practices her balance in one of many cardio, balance and strength fitness and brain challenge videos available to subscribers of Cardiomelon.
