Girls 3rd, boys 5th at UIC meet

On October 13 the Central cross-country team participated in the UIC Conference Meet at the Tri-Cities Golf Course in Luana. Central’s girls finished 3rd in a field of six teams and 45 runners with the following results:

Elkader Lions’ Club - Revived group has a grand vision

A Northeast Iowa couple last summer took steps to help ensure continued vision-screening services for area youngsters. At the time, they had no way of knowing the personal turn their journey would take.

Big Spring Hatchery - Waterline replacement underway

The pipeline that brings spring water to the raceways at Big Spring Trout Hatchery is being replaced. The hatchery remains open though access is a bit trickier.

Milestone for store - Wilke’s celebrates 150 years!

Near the entryway of Wilke’s grocery store in Elkader is a registration box where customers write their names and phone numbers on their receipts in hopes of winning the monthly drawing for a $150 Wilke’s gift certificate. This is just one of many promotions that Wilke’s is running in honor their 150th year serving the residents of Clayton County.

DESKS REMOVED FROM CLASSROOM

Central students in Kelly Erickson’s Spanish class have quickly adapted to the room’s non-traditional arrangement.

The most notable thing about Kelly Erickson’s classroom is not what’s in it but what’s not in it: desks. Before the school year started, Erickson removed the desks from her foreign language classroom at Central. She’s filled the space with other, more comfortable furniture including a sofa, loveseat, chairs and pillows.
