Emma Kennedy September 29, 1930-February 5, 2018

Emma Jean Kennedy, 87, of Manchester, Iowa, died on Monday, February 5, 2018, at the Good Neighbor Home in Manchester from cancer and complications. Per Emma’s wishes, there will be no visitation or services. Private burial will be at East Side Cemetery in Elkader at a later date.

Vets, staff donate to new facility

The veterinarians and staff at Elkader and Strawberry Point Veterinary Clinic have donated $5,000 to the new Swine and Sheep Complex at the Clayton County Fairgrounds. 

“We view this as an investment in the youth of this county and to their futures in agriculture and as productive citizens,” said Ryan Royer DVM, co-owner of the clinics.

Girls win close game; advance in regional play


Central’s Riley Schroeder plays tough defense in a game last week against Ed-Co. The Warriors won the game and advanced to regional quarterfinals.

In a nail-biting February 8 game against Ed-Co, the Central girls won their first-round regional game. Central led Ed-Co 7-4 at the end of the 1st quarter, but Ed-Co came back in the 2nd quarter to take a 19-14 lead at the half. At the end of the 3rdquarter, Ed-Co still held a slim 27-26 lead. Central was able to limit Ed-Co to only three points in the 4th quarter and went on to win by a score of 32-30.

C. Delbert Andrews

C. Delbert Andrews, 80, of Strawberry Point, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 28, 2018, at the Regional Medical Center in Manchester. He was born on June 21, 1937, in Center Point, the son of Clarence and Bertha (Lovell) Andrews. He was raised and educated in Benton County.

On June 7, 1957, Delbert was united in marriage to Janet Schwarting at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. Three children were born to this union. Delbert farmed and was a farm implement mechanic.

Jerrine Lovett

Jerrine Ann Lovett (Kliefoth), 86, of Henderson, NV passed away peacefully Friday, January 5, 2018, at Pacifica Senior Living Center in Henderson. She was born August 10, 1931 in Monona, Iowa, to Clarence and Edna Kliefoth and grew up in Clayton County, IA. She later moved to Arizona, where she graduated from Yuma Union High School in 1948.

CCH OWNERSHIP IS CHANGING

Central Community Hospital, Elkader, will soon have a new owner.

A letter of intent has been signed that enables Mercy Health Network (MHN), Dubuque, to acquire the hospital. The official change of ownership is set for July 1, 2018.

Kathleen Bente

Kathleen Rose Bente, 91, formerly of Elkader, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, January 14, 2018, at Strawberry Point Lutheran Home. She was born November 25, 1926, to James and Elise (Homann) Bissell near Turkey River Junction. She graduated from Colesburg High School and then began teaching at a country school. Kate was joined in marriage to Lloyd Bente on June 4th, 1946. To this union six children were born.
