Prairie du Chien plays well against powerful Platteville

The Prairie du Chien volleyball team welcomed Platteville to the Fieldhouse on Friday night for an SWC match. The Hillmen came in atop the conference standings so the girls had their work cut out for them.
The first 10 points of the match went back and forth for a 5-5 tie. Platteville would then go on a run and win 14 of the next 20 points to go up 19-11. The girls started to settle down a bit after that, but they couldn’t make a comeback. Platteville would take the first set 25-17.
In the second set, Platteville came out firing and took a 6-0 lead. Timeout Prairie. Out of the timeout, senior libero, Macey Banasik, got a back row kill. The next 12 points went back and forth for a 12-7 Platteville lead. However, Platteville would again go on a run and take a commanding 19-9 lead. Senior setter, Abby Feye, dove into the bleachers for a ball and injured her shoulder. She would tough it out and finish the set, but she would sit out the rest of the night. Middle hitter, Hope Martin, got back to back kills late in the set, but it wasn’t enough. Platteville would take the set 25-15.
The Hawks leaned on junior, Katelyne Lutz, to do the setting duties for the rest of the match and she did a very good job! With the girls down 2-0, senior middle hitter Clare Teynor and Katelyne would hook up for back to back kills to tie the score at 2-2. Then, with the Hawks down 9-10, Platteville had an overpass that junior outside hitter, Lily Krahn, jumped up and absolutely demolished! The ball hit inside the 10 foot line, which isn’t easy to do. Platteville won the next 3 points to take a 14-11 lead. Then, Clare Teynor and Katelyne Lutz blocked Hillmen’s outside hitter to start a rally. Back to back to back kills by Lily Krahn, senior outside hitter, Makenzie Knapp, and Hope Martin tied the match at 15 and gained the momentum. Timeout Platteville. Out of the timeout, Platteville would win 5 of the next 6 points. Timeout Prairie. Out of the Prairie timeout, the Hawks set up Hope Martin for a kill that began a rally! The Hawks would win the next six points to go up 22-20. After a sideout by Platteville, Makenzie Knapp ended a long rally with a kill to take a 23-21 lead. Timeout Platteville. Lily Krahn stuffed the next Platteville hitting attempt for game point and after an error by the Hillmen, the Hawks won set three, 25-21!
With Platteville up two sets to one, the girls started the fourth set energized, earning a 7-6 lead. However, with a couple errors by the Hawks the Hillmen won the next 5 points to go up 11-7. Later in the set, with the Hawks down 22-14 Hope Martin got a kill followed by an ace from Katelyne Lutz, a block by Makenzie Knapp and Hope Martin, and a hitting error by Platteville and suddenly it was 22-18. However, after a couple of errors by the Hawks and a kill, Platteville was able to win the fourth set 25-18 and the match three games to one.
