The MFL MarMac volleyball team upped its record to 1-6 last week, following up a loss to Waukon with a win over Postville.

The Bulldogs hosted the Indians on Sept. 15, dropping the first two sets 25-16 and 25-15. They mounted a comeback in set three, but fell just short, 25-23.

Riley Moreland was the team’s kill leader, with eight, and also tallied two blocks and eight digs. She was a perfect 8-8 serving, including one of MFL MarMac’s five aces. Kayden Gillitzer racked up three kills and two blocks, along with a 5-5 serving night with an ace. Anna Stoddard had one kill and a team-high four blocks, while Grace Anderson picked up one kill, one block and four digs.

Lexy Johnson earned 15 digs—a team high—and completed nine of 12 serves, including an ace. Miranda Lang snagged seven digs and made all 12 of her serves, with two of them aces. Lakota Morrissey earned a team-leading seven assists, and Abby Schellhorn had five.

The Bulldogs secured their first win of the season on Sept. 17, at Postville. They won the first two sets easily, with a score of 25-13 in each. The Pirates rallied in the third set, however, taking it 25-20. But MFL MarMac put the match out of reach in the fourth, netting a 25-11 victory to win the game 3-1.

The team will try to keep the momentum going this week, hosting North Fayette Valley on Thursday, Sept. 24, then competing in a tournament at Decorah on Saturday, Sept. 26.
