Samantha Jo Dickens, 32, of Sutliff, formerly of Monona and Marquette, passed away Thursday, Sept. 10, 2020. She was born on March 14, 1988, to Terry LeRoy and Darcy Ann (Mason) Dickens in La Crosse, Wis. Samantha was baptized and confirmed at Giard Methodist Church. She graduated from MFL MarMac High School in Monona in 2006 and received her culinary degree from Kirkwood Community College in Cedar Rapids.

Sammy was a processor for the fulfillment team at TransAmerica in Cedar Rapids and also worked at Baxa’s Sutliff Store and Tavern in Sutliff. She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Lisbon. Sammy also enjoyed being an EMT for the MFL Ambulance Service. She was a free spirit with a strong faith, and she enjoyed sewing, making homemade presents for Christmas, making her own clothes, fishing for catfish, tailgating and cheering on the Hawkeyes. Sammy loved spending time with her family and friends.

Sammy is survived by the love of her life, Justin Baxa, and their fur babies, George Tucker and Dixie Rose, of Sutliff; her parents, Terry and Darcy Dickens of Monona; siblings, Ciara (Matthew) Blake of Monona and Tony (Mara) Dickens of Lansing; grandparents, Jim (Janis) Mason of Marquette and Howard Schaefer of Ansonville, N.C.; nieces and nephew, Ashlyn, Jase and Lila Mae Blake and Rhealee Rue Dickens; aunts and uncles, Sue (John) Dorszynski of Greendale, Wis., Tracy (Wade) Hebel of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Tammy (Jeff) DuCharme of Prairie du Chien, Wis., Dawn (Bob) Brus of Mt. Vernon, Jim (Jane) Mason of Onalaska, Wis., John (Tracy) DeLong of La Crescent, Minn., and Joey (Robbie) Mason of Prairie du Chien, Wis.; several cousins; many friends; and Justin’s family, parents Larry (Ange) Baxa, sister Jennie (Lance) Zerbe, nieces Madelynn, Breklynn and Aurora Zerbe, and Grandpa John, all of Lisbon.

Sammy was preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Harvey and Patricia Dickens, and maternal grandmother, Karen Schaefer.

Celebration of life services will be at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 16, 2020, at Living Faith United Methodist Parish, Giard, with Rev. Deb Parkison as the officiant. There will also be a visitation two hours before services from 1 to 3 p.m. at the church in Giard, on Wednesday.

Inurnment will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor, at a later date.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation, Monona, is helping the family with the arrangements.
