Donna Mae Starkey, 79, of Luana, died Sunday, May 10, 2020, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon. Donna was born Sept. 20, 1940, to Clayton and Lucille (Glawe) O’Neal in St. Olaf. She graduated from Elkader High School and then trained for nursing.

Donna was united in marriage with Clifford Starkey on Feb. 18, 1978, in Monona.

Surviving Donna are her five children, Kathy Bugenhagen of Monona, Kendall (Kathy) Bradley of McDonough, Ga., Karen (Marshall) Burkhart of Wellman, Kelly (Jeff) Smerud of Monona and Kirk Krampeter of Loxahatchee, Fla.; daughter of Clifford Starkey, Donna (LeRoy) Luepker of Lowden; grandchildren, Parker Grimm, Lance Grimm, Connor Bradley, Collin Bradley, Jesse Burkhart, Keagan Smerud and Kayla Krampeter; great-grandchildren, Michelle Burkhart, Aiden Burkhart, Melody Grimm and Harmony Grimm; sister-in-law, Nancy Blong; several nieces and nephews and three sisters, Diane Doerring, Susan Ludvik and Linda Ambrose.  

Donna was preceded in death by her parents, Clayton and Lucille O’Neal; husband, Clifford Starkey on Sept. 17, 2007; siblings, Jimmy O’Neal, Clay O’Neal and Sherry O’Neal; and one grandson, Jared Burkhart.

Due to state and federal guidance on gatherings due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the family will not be having a public memorial at this time. A private graveside service will be held.

Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona is assisting the family.
