Fire department’s brush truck outfitted by real community effort

The Prairie du Chien Fire Department has a brand new brush truck, a 2019 Ford F350, from winning bidder Blackhawk Motors (which is now Fillback).
According to Fire Chief Jeff Boughton, acquiring a truck like this one brings together a real community effort.
The $32,000 truck was purchased at a discounted state price with reassigned capital funds the department had planned for another project the city elected not to do this year.
Not only did the truck come from a local auto dealer, with sophisticated detailing done by Sports World, but also MotoRace Tire, also of Prairie du Chien, has stepped forward to donate its FREEDOM Tires and Muscle Wheels as well. They are triple-belted nylon with the strongest sidewalls in the industry, which are meant to be safer in wet conditions, according to MRT owner Mark Thornburg.
The truck was ordered with the basic package including stock tires, in an effort to save taxpayers money, said Chief Jeff Boughton. When it arrived in March to replace a 1991 Ford one-ton, MRT decided to outfit the truck to their standards.
MRT developed its FREEDOM Chief Tires specifically to service the Midwest area, where its warehouse opened in 2018.
“These are the grippiest tires you’ll ever use,” Thornburg said.
In addition, the Prairie du Chien Fire Association put in a lot of labor to outfit the back end of the F350 for brush fires, and the pump on the back was purchased through a donation from the Prairie du Chien Rod and Gun Club.
All in all, Boughton said, “It made the truck pretty affordable.”
