Prairie grapplers are regional champs
On Saturday, Feb. 9, the WIAA wrestling tournament series started in the state of Wisconsin. Prairie du Chien was host for a WIAA D2 Regional, with seven teams competing for the crown.
The PDC grapplers showed up to wrestle, and came away with a Regional Championship, marking the second consecutive year the Hawks have done so. PDC scored 234 points on their way to a very convincing win. River Valley finished second with 178 points.
Every wrestler in the PDC lineup scored points. At the end of the day, the Hawks advanced eight wrestlers to next weekend’s sectional. Five Hawks finished as champions: Traeton Saint (138#), Reid Koenig (145#), Bradyn Saint (152#), Colten Wall (220#), and Jerrod Osterkamp (285#). Also advancing with runner up finishes were: Matt Rogge (113#), Chase Watson (126#), and Isaac Avery (160#). Coming up just short but helping the Hawks with plenty of team points with third-place finishes were: Nick Mara (106#), Keenan Holley (132#), Zach Swiggum (182#), and Luke Wright (195#).
With the Regional Championship, the Hawks will travel to River Valley on Tuesday evening for Team Sectionals. At 6 p.m., PDC will wrestle Evansville/Albany in a semifinal. The winner will advance to the final against either GET/Melrose-Mindoro or Lodi for a chance to advance to Team State. On Saturday, the Blackhawks will be in Adams/Friendship for individual sectionals with an 11 a.m. start. Go Hawks!
