Marquette man, Bagley woman charged with meth possession
A 39-year-old Marquette man and a 32-year-old Bagley woman have each been charged in Crawford County Circuit Court with possession of methamphetamine.
Jeremiah Young faces up to a $10,000 fine and 3.5 years in prison if convicted.
Vanessa Young has also been charged with obstructing an officer. She faces up to $20,000 in fines and four years, three months imprisonment if convicted of both counts.
According to the criminal complaint, a Prairie du Chien police officer stopped a vehicle driven by Jeremiah Young on the Highway 18 bypass for equipment violations and speeding.
The Crawford County K9 Unit arrived and made a positive alert to the presence of controlled substances within the vehicle.
A plastic container with meth inside was found in a search. Jeremiah Young and his passenger, Vanessa Young were both arrested for possession of meth. When Vanessa was escorted to a squad car, she began struggling with a police officer, the complaint said. Vanessa had something in her mouth and refused to open her mouth. Officers then saw Vanessa swallow an object, the complaint said. A clear plastic bag that appeared to be chewed up and wet with saliva was then located on the ground next to where Vanessa’s head would have been, according to the complaint.
Jeremiah Young told officers that anything within the vehicle was his, according to the complaint.
