Ann Weldy

Ann Weldy passed away peacefully on Oct. 18, supported by the prayers of her family.

Ann was born Ann Joyce Seely, on the Seely family farm outside of Wauzeka, on April 21, 1934. 

She was preceded in death by her husband Rodney, her parents William and Gunda Seely, older sister Ruth, and younger brother Dale. 

She is survived by her youngest sister Mae Seely Sylvester, her children Mark (Linda) Weldy, Lisa Weldy (Tony) Mendes, and Susan Weldy (Johnny); sister-in-law Sharon Seely, longtime family friend Susan Kimberly; and cousins, nieces and nephews. Ann is also survived and remembered by her grandchildren Matthew (Kelsea) Weldy, Laura Weldy (Bert) and Megan Weldy (Cal), as well as a great-granddaughter Rosemary, who brought Ann extra joy during her final months with visits and video calls.

Ann grew up on the family farm, developing a love of horses that stayed with her the rest of her life. After high school in Wauzeka, Ann moved to Chicago for two years, where she attended school, worked and lived with her great lifelong friend Evelyn. Together, these small town girls explored Chicago, met husbands, and Ann cemented her love of the Chicago Cubs. After marriage and some time living in Brodhead and Cross Plains, Ann and husband Rodney moved their young family to a farm in the Wauzeka area, just a mile away from Ann’s family farm. They raised their family in the Wauzeka area, sent the kids off to school and careers, and then moved to the St. Paul area in 1986, to be near their new grandson. They spent the rest of their lives there, including their final years at Inver Glen Senior Living in Inver Grove Heights, where they received wonderful care and support. Ann spent her adult life caring for others: her mother, her children, and elderly friends in need she met in the Virginia Street Church congregation. She was active in several church communities throughout her life, most recently as a leader of the Sunday School program, wedding ministry and Christmas pageants at Virginia Street Church.

Ann will be remembered for her service to others, and her love of family, and certainly for her lifelong support of the Chicago Cubs. She always enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, reading stories and playing games. Yet, she had a flair for adventure that occasionally surprised us, like her parasailing outing while on vacation. Her family will remember games of croquet in the back yard with “Grandma rules,” holiday dinners, and Christmas pageants spent together.

There will be a memorial service for Ann at the St. Paul United Methodist Church in Wauzeka on Saturday, Nov. 10, at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to follow in the church fellowship hall. Interment will follow in the Wauzeka Cemetery.
