City council okays bathhouse change
By Shelia Tomkins
At a special meeting on Friday, Oct. 26, the Guttenberg city council approved a design change for the bathhouse of the new swimming pool currently under construction.
The revision will provide a family changing room for the facility, not part of the original design. In September, a resident requested that the bathhouse include a room that can be used by patrons of either gender who have caregivers.
The general contractor for the pool, Portzen Construction, gave a preliminary estimate of $32,000 for the change. At the regular October council meeting, the council tabled any decision pending investigation of the total cost and the results of any additional fundraising.
At Friday's meeting, MJ Smith, a member of the pool fund-raising group, told the council that $38,075 had been raised from private donors, surpassing the goal.
The council, with all members present, voted unanimously to approve the change.
