Pink Night is coming up for the Prairie du Chien High School volleyball team, on Tuesday, Oct. 9, in a home match against Lancaster. The junior varsity game begins at 5:45 p.m. in the high school gym, with the varsity to follow at 7:15 p.m.

Aside from a surely entertaining competition, there will be an opportunity for community members to step up and “block out cancer” by supporting a local woman who is battling breast cancer. Highlights include raffle baskets and a cookie sale that evening.

White T-shirts with a pink breast cancer ribbon are currently on sale; contact parent/organizer Christina Toberman if interested (608-412-5126). They will also be available for purchase during Pink Night. Everyone attending, regardless of whether they purchase a T-shirt or not, is encouraged to help fill the gym with a sea of pink by wearing some shade of the color.

The volleyball players will wear pink uniforms, hair ties and shoe laces. The visiting Flying Arrows were asked to wear pink as well.

All survivors of any cancer will be specially recognized with a pink carnation during the event.

Pink Night is a highly-anticipated event for the volleyball program each year, as it is for a number of area schools. Toberman said this will be the sixth season the Blackhawks have hosted the Breast Cancer Awareness Month fundraiser.
