A Prairie du Chien police officer talks to the driver of one of the vehicles involved in the accident.

On Monday, Aug. 13, at 2:10 p.m., the Crawford County Communications Center was notified of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 35 and East LaPointe Street in Prairie du Chien.

It was determined that a 2018 Jeep, driven by 75-year-old Carolyn Clements of Decorah, Iowa, attempted to make a left turn onto East LaPointe Street and was struck by a 2000 Buick, driven by 89-year-old Irmagard Hogenson of Prairie du Chien. The Hogenson vehicle was traveling north through the intersection.

As a result of the crash, the Clements’ vehicle ended up on its side and Clements was trapped inside. Clements was removed from the vehicle by the Prairie du Chien Fire Department Jaws of Life. Both vehicles sustained heavy damage as a result of the crash. Both drivers were taken to Crossing Rivers Health for treatment of their injuries.

The Prairie du Chien Police Department was also assisted at the scene by the Crawford County Sheriff’s Department, Milo’s Towing, Bob’s Towing and Gundersen Tri-State EMS.
