Richard Allen Ellefson, 68, of Lansing, Iowa, died suddenly Wednesday, July 18, at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa. 

Rich was born on Jan. 25, 1950, to Junice (Ellefson) Bolsinger in Waukon, Iowa. He attended school in Lansing and graduated from Kee High in 1968. On Dec. 12, 1980, he was united in marriage to Yvonne Smith. To this union two sons were born. The couple later divorced.

Rich enjoyed going out for breakfast at Nutmeg’s, going out to eat at Milty’s, having a few beers at the OP, and playing cards. Rich also liked hunting deer and hunting turkeys. Rich was very kind hearted and loved helping people and was a “fixture” of Lansing. Rich was employed at Northern Engraving for numerous years until the plant closed.

Survivors include his two sons, David Ellefson and Dan Ellefson, both of Lansing, Iowa; three siblings, Charles Ellefson, of Lansing, Iowa, Sandy (Bob) McCoy, of Waukon, Iowa, Ray “Butch” (Pam) Ellefson, of Prairie du Chien; two nieces, Amy (Josh) Bahsen, of Monona, Iowa, and Nicole Ellefson, of La Crosse; and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his mother in January of 2007; one niece, Kelly (Smerud) Deeney, in October of 2006; one great nephew, Justin Waters; and one great niece, Jessica Waters.

A celebration of life for Rich will be on Sunday, July 29, at Mount Hosmer starting at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcomed to come and share their memories with the family. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Services in Lansing is assisting the family with arrangements.
