Randy J. Gabel, Sr., 74, of Potosi, passed away on Monday, July 16, at his home surrounded by his loving family. 

He was born on July 9, 1944, in Cuba City, the son of Clarence and Mae (Laughlin) Gabel. Randy graduated from Potosi High School. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1965, and served his country during Vietnam. Randy was honorably discharged in 1967 and resided in Illinois. On Jan. 16, 1971, he was united in marriage to Terese “Terri” Frye, in Dubuque, Iowa. Randy was employed at Wisconsin Power and Light in 1975 and retired in 2010 after 35 years of employment. 

He enjoyed fishing, hunting, computer work, making jelly and pies, yard maintenance such as cutting trees and clearing the land, and traveling. Randy dearly loved spending time with his family and grandchildren. His most favorite trip was the seven-day cruise with his entire family. Randy especially enjoyed taking the grandchildren on boat rides and attending their activities. Randy was a good man and will be dearly missed by all who knew him

Survivors include his wife, Terri; their children Randy John, Jr. (Brenda) Gabel and Suzy (Brad) Bierman; five grandchildren Alexa and Addisyn Gabel, and Brandon, Will and Emily Bierman; a sister, Kay (Orrin) Horner; and other relatives and friends.

In addition to his parents, Randy was preceded in death by his brother, Ed Gabel and a sister, Deb Laughlin. 

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, July 24, at 11 a.m., at St. Andrew Catholic Church in Tennyson with Father Richard Leffler officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Van Buren Cemetery, Potosi. Family and friends may call on Monday, July 23, from 4 to 7 p.m. at St. Andrew Catholic Church and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.
