Richard A. Garside, 76, passed away on Tuesday, July 10, in his home while under the care of Agrace Hospice Care.

Dick was delivered at home by a neighbor on May 27, 1942. He was one of five children born to Lulu Belle (Poston) Garside and Eldridge Garside in the town of Patch Grove. 

Dick graduated from Patch Grove High School and enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Upon completion of his tour of duty he returned to Patch Grove where he met and married Millie Becker who was a local teacher. Dick’s son Jon works in human resources and he and his family live in Saint Paul, Minn. His daughter Tina is an art and guidance teacher and she and her family reside near Juneau.

Dick attended the University of Wisconsin-Platteville where he earned a BS degree in industrial education. He taught industrial technology for 26 years in the Prairie du Chien School District where he positively impacted the lives of many students and was well respected in the community. Upon retirement he moved to Beaver Dam to be closer to family. 

Throughout Dick’s life he built beautiful furniture for his home, church, family, and friends. His other interests were traveling, fishing, and following Wisconsin sports teams. He loved his church families, Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Prairie du Chien and Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church in Beaver Dam. Dick’s wife, children, and grandchildren were the love of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Millie; his children, Jon Garside (Heidi) and Tina Garside Kasper (Peter); and grandchildren Gabriel Mendoza, Jack and Frank Garside, and Evan and Emily Kasper; brothers Keith Garside, Cameron Mo., Kenneth Garside (Jo-Anne), New Bern, N.C., Larry Garside, Shawno; sister Margie Garside Bausch, McFarland; and many nephews and nieces.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, July 21, at 1 p.m., at Saint Mark’s Episcopal Church, 700 E Mill St, Beaver Dam, WI 53916. Visitation will be held at the church from 11 a.m. until the time of the service on Saturday.
