Geraldine (Gerri) Edwards, 97, of McGregor, died surrounded by loved ones on Monday, June 18, at the Lutheran Retirement Home in Northwood, where she had resided for the past six and a half years.

She was born on May 22, 1921, in McGregor, the daughter of Henry Sr. and Elizabeth Kleinow. She attended and graduated from McGregor High School. She married Marlyn Edwards on Sept. 8, 1939, in McGregor. They had one daughter, Juanita.

After Marlyn was paralyzed from an injury received while serving in the Army in WWII, Gerri’s job was taking loving care of Marlyn. Following Marlyn’s passing on Oct. 7, 1962, Gerri began working at the McGregor State Bank. Gerri was also the treasurer for the McGregor Rescue Squad for many years. Gerri was also a very active member of the McGregor Methodist Church.

Gerri enjoyed traveling, playing Bridge, family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren who she loved very much. Gerri truly loved her hometown of McGregor and missed not being home.

She is survived by her son-in-law, Gary Ames, of Calmar; her grandchildren, Traci (Don) Hauge, of Albert Lea, Minn., Tim Hauge, of New Richland, Minn., Kylie Hauge, of Albert Lea, Minn., Greg Ames, of Calmar, and Kevin (Trina) Ames, of Calmar; her brother, Raymon (Ruth) Kleinow, of Monticello; and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Henry Sr. and Elizabeth Kleinow; husband, Marlyn; her daughter, Juanita; her sisters and brothers-in-law, Pauline (Clifford) Westphal, Harriet (George) Calkins, Mary (Dick) Nesvik; brother, Henry Kleinow Jr.; and sister-in-law, Pat Kleinow.

We want to extend our heartfelt thank you to the wonderful staff at the Lutheran Retirement Home for taking such great care of Gerri during her stay. Thank you for all your help and your kind words and comfort to us during this difficult time.

Funeral Services will be at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 30, at Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor. There will be a visitation from 9 to 10:30 a.m., before services at the funeral home on Saturday. Rev. Deb Parkison will be the Officiant. Burial will follow at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, McGregor. Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service, McGregor, is helping the family with the arrangements.
