Grasshoppers top Holmen
Prairie du Chien grabbed an early lead on its way to a 9-4 victory over the Holmen 17s on Monday evening at the St. Feriole Island Ballpark. Prairie du Chien scored on a double by Jonathan Dyer and a sacrifice fly by Drake Coleman in the first inning to gain a 2-1 advantage.
The Grasshoppers scored five runs in the sixth inning. The Hoppers’ offense in the inning was led by Dyer, Grant Martin and Clayton DuCharme, all knocking in runs.
Ryan McGrath got the start for the Hoppers. He went five innings, allowing one run on three hits, striking out one and walking none.
Westcott was on the mound for the Holmen 17s. He went five innings, allowing four runs on six hits and striking out four. Wall threw one inning in relief.
Prairie du Chien racked up 10 hits in the game. Dyer and Martin each collected two hits to lead the Hoppers. Dyer had 3 RBI and Martin recorded 2. Gavin Gillitzer has 1x3 with an RBI. Mark Welter was 1x1. Drake Coleman was 1x3 with an RBI. Cory Check was 1x3. Dylan Coleman was 1x2.
Palmer led the Holmen 17s with two hits in three at bats.
Prairie du Chien is now 4-0 on the season.
