Richard David Scherf, 49, of McGregor, Iowa died on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at his home in McGregor, Iowa. Richard was born February 25, 1969, to Loren and Carol (Leuchtenmacher) Scherf in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. He graduated from Mar-Mac High School with the class of 1987.

Rich was united in marriage with Sonja Jean Reed; one son was born to this union. They later divorced. Rich had been employed as an industrial painter at Bituma, C.J. Moyna & Sons and Caterpillar. He enjoyed fishing, grilling and reading. Rich was an avid Minnesota Viking and NASCAR fan. He enjoyed spending time with his brothers, but most of all Ryan was the most enjoyment out of life.

Rich is survived by his son, Ryan Scherf of Luana, Iowa; siblings, Bradley (Kathy) Scherf of Farmersburg, Iowa, Debra (Dale) Wagner of Elkport, Iowa, Gary (Geri) Scherf of St. Olaf, Iowa, Robert (Tammy) Scherf of St. Olaf, Iowa, Dennis (Jan) Scherf of St. Olaf, Iowa, Randy (Kim) Scherf of Farmersburg, Iowa, Lorene (Lindelle) Scherf of St. Olaf, Iowa, Michael (Paula) Scherf of Elkader, Iowa and Charlie (Shannon) Scherf of St. Olaf, Iowa; and his mother, Carol (Steve) Ortman of Marquette, Iowa.

Rich was preceded in death by his father, Loren Scherf; sister, Brenda Scherf; and nephew, Jacob Scherf

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, May 29, 2018, at First Lutheran Church, McGregor, Iowa with Rev. Gary Hatcher as the officiant. There was a visitation from 9 a.m. until time of service at the church on Tuesday.

Inurnment was at First Lutheran Cemetery (Swede Ridge), rural McGregor, Iowa.

Thornburg-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of McGregor, Iowa assisted the family with arrangements.
