Jail inmate charged with two counts of battery to an officer of the court

A 29-year-old La Crosse man has been charged in Crawford County Circuit Court with two counts of battery to an officer of the court. 

Bryant J. Swiggum faces up to a total of 12 years in prison and $20,000 in fines if convicted of both counts. 

According to the criminal complaint, Swiggum was an inmate in the Crawford County Jail and was acting up. When a jailer went to speak to Swiggum, Swiggum punched the jailer in the side of the head, the complaint said.

A second jailer came to assist the first jailer as they attempted to place Swiggum in a restraint chair. Swiggum then punched the second jailer in the mouth and punched the first jailer again. Four deputies were finally able to gain control of Swiggum and placed him in the restraint chair, according to the complaint.
