Henry L. “Hank” Nelsen, 94, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Wednesday, May 9, at Crossing Rivers Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wis.

 

He was born Feb. 12, 1924, in Springfield, Minn., the son of Nels and Tekla (Christensen) Nelsen. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII in the European Theatre. He married Geraldine Halverson on June 27, 1953, in Chicago, Ill. Hank worked as a carpenter and he and Gerry enjoyed collecting and selling antiques. They also owned and operated the Holiday Motel in Prairie du Chien. 

 

He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Gerry; his daughters Christi (Craig) Trebes, of Crystal Lake, Ill., and Chari (Scott) Nelson, of Hudson; seven grandsons; two granddaughters; seven great grandchildren; and two great granddaughters. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, three sisters and one great grandson.

 

Funeral services will be Monday, May 14, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Prairie du Chien, Rev. Joe Irvin officiating with burial in the Marion Lutheran Church Cemetery in Gunder. Military honors will be accorded by the Prairie du Chien Honor Guard. Friends may call on Sunday, May 13, from 2 to 6 p.m., at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien and at the church on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service. In lieu of flowers memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer’s Association.
