Borghild “Borgie” Therese (Myhre) Tuecke, 104, of Guttenberg, was called home by her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Friday, March 30, 2018, from Stonehill Care Center in Dubuque.

Visitation was Monday, April 2, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Tuesday, April 3, at St. John's Lutheran Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Rev. Shane Anderson.

Interment was at Garnavillo Community Cemetery.

Borgie was born the second of three children on Aug. 9, 1913, in Spring Grove, Minn., the daughter of Olaf and Thora Myhre.

Borgie grew up on a farm outside of Spring Grove, where she spoke Norwegian and later learned English as her second language in early grammar school. She attended a country school near Spring Grove, where she walked three miles round trip every day and was never absent once all the way through the sixth grade. In the winter time, Borgie had to cross country ski to school because of the snowy conditions. She attended and graduated from the Spring Grove High School and later graduated from Luther College with a degree in teaching in 1934, which was also the inaugural co-ed class at Luther College. She began teaching right out of college near Spring Grove, and later accepted a job teaching second grade in Guttenberg. On Oct. 6, 1946, Borgie was united in marriage with Cornelius Tuecke at the Wilmington Lutheran Church in Spring Grove. Borgie stopped teaching in 1947 when she and Cornelius opened up the Tuecke Funeral Home.

Borgie was a member of the Guttenberg Hospital Auxiliary, Eastern Star, Book Club, Ingleside Club and Dorcas. She was a woman of strong faith, which stayed with her for her entire life. She was a long-time member of St. John’s Church in Guttenberg and was very active in the parish during her lifetime. Along with her faith, Borgie’s family was the most important part of her life. She truly cherished spending time with her children and grandchildren and was very proud of them.

Borgie will be forever loved and cherished by her children, Edward (Sue) Tuecke, Craig (Kari) Tuecke and Mary Beth (Rick) Allyn; four grandchildren, Beth (Corey) Malecki, Allysa (Bettina) Allyn, Bill (Joy) Allyn and Erin (fiancé Nic Moon) Tuecke; seven great-grandchildren; McKenna, Riley, Jovi, Keegan, Bristol, Mila, and Jagger; and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Cornelius in 2008; daughter, Pamela in infancy; brother, Ozzy Myhre and sister, Marilyn Nelson.
