Coach Paul Neil Bebow walked toward his final goal with his family cheering him on from his bedside on Tuesday, Feb. 27.

Coach Bebow was born on Nov. 16, 1935, to Paul Nicholas and Marcella (Kleinschmidt) Bebow in Racine. After graduation from Racine St. Catherine’s High School in 1954, Coach attended the University of North Dakota in Grand Forks. In December 1958, Coach went back to North Dakota and finished his college career by earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education, graduating in 1963. Coach Bebow married Judith (Newman) on April 25, 1960, and after teaching for a year in Hilbert, Wisconsin, the Bebow family made their best move by coming to Prairie du Chien in 1964.

Coach was able to inspire many students on the field, in the gym, and in the classroom for over 27 years. His passion and commitment for working with students was an inspiration to many in the Prairie du Chien community. He was recognized by many, but one of his most special moments was being inducted into the Wisconsin High School Football Coaches Association Hall of Fame in March of 1994 by Barry Alvarez. Coach Bebow was also recognized by the Prairie du Chien community by being inducted into the Prairie du Chien High School Hall of Fame.

Coach Bebow is survived by his wife of 57 plus years, Judy; his daughter Brenda (Jeff) Lenzendorf, of Eastman; his son, Jeff, of Excelsior, Minn.; and his son, Jay (Mary), of Bettendorf, Iowa. He also leaves behind his most favorite conversation pieces—his grandchildren: Kari, Nick (Samantha) and Katie Lenzendorf; Madison and Sydney Bebow; Claire and Sam Bebow; his great-grandchildren: Kaylie, Maddie and Marlee Kronberg, and their dad, Anders Kronberg. He is further survived by his brother, Richard (Junne) of Racine.
