New Prairie du Chien clubhouse taking shape

Construction for the new clubhouse at Prairie du Chien Country Club has begun, and the much-anticipated building is taking shape.

“Construction is on schedule although this cold snap may put us behind a few days,” said Country Club General Manager Jim Maguire. “Thankfully, it’s been around the holidays, so I don’t think there was much planned for this week anyway. If we have some good working weather, we could have it enclosed within a few weeks for plumbing and electrical work to begin.”

Top Notch Construction of Prairie du Chien, located near Patch Grove, is the general contractor for the project, and there are several subcontractors.

“Top Notch would like to have the project completed by mid-April, which will work great for us,” said Maguire. “Local subcontractors/suppliers involved are Myers Mechanical Solutions, Palmer Electric, Edwards Plumbing and Heating and Carpets to Go, with more to come.”

Delta 3 Engineering of Platteville was the architect for the project, which was privately funded, with the country club raising approximately $1 million.

“We are very excited about the project, and I think the community is as well,” said Maguire. “We want to make sure to get it right so that the club and community can be proud of what we have to offer. We have a lot to do during the winter months to prepare for the opening. Our membership has been, and will be, very active in preparing the new building. Our founders worked hard to build the club 60 years ago and I look to this generation to step up and do the same in contributing to the success of the club moving forward. These are exciting times for sure.”

Prairie du Chien Country Club Incorporated has numerous share holders, and the Country Club Board of Directors envisioned a new clubhouse about eight to 10 years ago.

The new clubhouse will be just under 6,000 square feet, which is about the same size as the former facility. It will have a year-round restaurant, which will include Friday night fish fries. The new restaurant, working in conjunction with the recently built pavilion, will also be able to accommodate private parties, business parties, weddings and other special events.

Prairie du Chien Country Club began as a nine-hole golf course and had its grand opening on July 4, 1958.

Built on the grounds of an old farmhouse in the hills, Prairie du Chien Country Club was redesigned into an 18-hole course by Gilmore & Graves in 1993.

Prairie du Chien Country Club is located just a few minutes south of Prairie du Chien at 38485 Highway 18.
