Change often comes with the arrival of a new year. So is the case with your hometown newspaper.

The Courier Press’ printing press and its associated technology have retired, meaning the newspaper is no longer printed on site at the Prairie du Chien office facility. Graphics Inc., of Calmar, Iowa, which has printed The Trader weekly and many special sections for the Courier, has taken on regular publication of the product.

With this transition, newsstand timing will be revised as our staff must allow for travel time to and from Prairie du Chien. Our goal is for each issue—every Monday and Wednesday—to be available for purchase in the Courier Press office by 2 p.m. on those days. Papers will then be delivered to newsstands in Prairie du Chien. Subscribers’ newspapers should still arrive at the same time they did previously.

Advertising deadlines are increasingly more important with this transition. Those placing advertisements in the Courier are asked to contact the office by 3 p.m. on the business day before publication.

In addition, readers may have noticed a slightly modified appearance to the past few issues of the Courier Press, since we began the transition several weeks ago during the hustle and bustle of the Christmas season. Adjustments were made, particularly to the front page design, in order to accommodate a new digital address label for our subscribers. The Jan. 3 issue features a redesigned front page banner that incorporates that space in a more appealing way.

Readers may also notice sharper, more vibrant color, ads and pictures throughout our paper. Also, we will now have the ability to print more than 24 pages per section, as well as more color pages, which we feel will result in improved quality of our product.

Thanks for your patience as we adapt to this latest process and schedule. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have at 326-2441.
