Donald William Scheffert, 85, of Guttenberg, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2017, at the Guttenberg Care Center.

Visitation was Friday, Dec. 15, at Tuecke-Allyn Funeral Home, Guttenberg and one hour before services at the church.

Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 16, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Guttenberg, conducted by Marvin Bries.

Interment will be at a later date.

Don was born July 16, 1932, to Joseph and Evelyn (Hinzman) Scheffert in Elkader. He attended St. Joseph’s in Elkader and completed his high school career in 1950. On Jan. 22, 1955, at the Immaculate Conception Church in Charles City, Don married the love of his life, Patricia Dugan, and together they were blessed with four children: Susan, Julie, Kathy, and Jim.

Don worked for many years as a store manager and in the grocery industry, specializing in the meat department. When he wasn’t working, Don spent much of his time with his family, whether it was with his children or even his grandchildren. Don also enjoyed playing cards, taking family camping trips, fishing, and casino trips. He was also a member of the St. Mary's Parish, St. Mary’s School Board, the Guttenberg Fire Department, and Guttenberg Jaycees.

Left to cherish his memory are wife, Pat of Guttenberg; daughters, Susan (Stephan) Bahls of Guttenberg, Julie (Chris Youngblut) Geuder of Guttenberg, and Kathy (Brian) Oberreuter of Ryan; son, Jim Scheffert of Ryan; eight grandchildren, Aaron (Mary) Bahls, Slade (Christina) Bahls, Travis (Michelle) Geuder, Tim Geuder, Trent Geuder, Jade Geuder, Dax Oberreuter, Cassidy Oberreuter; eight great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Edward Scheffert; son-in-law, Tom Geuder; in-laws, Charles and Gertrude Dugan.

In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established and any and all contributions may be sent to 703 N. 3rd St., Guttenberg, IA 52052.
