Wilbur L. Rupp, 102, of Prairie du Chien, passed away at his home on Tuesday, Dec. 12. 

 

He was born April 16, 1915, in Slater, Iowa, the son of Charles and Mae (Peterson) Rupp. He married Bernice Minor on Nov. 12, 1941, in Wheaton, Ill. Wilbur served in the U.S. Navy during WWII in the Pacific Theatre. He worked as a millwright in the electromotive division of General Motors for over 35 years until his retirement. He later enjoyed working as a handyman and painter. Bernice preceded him in death on May 16, 1997, after 56 years of marriage. Wilbur was an active member of the VFW, the American Legion and the Holy Name Society. 

 

He is survived by his daughters, Mary Rupp and Beverly Regester, both of Prairie du Chien; his grandchildren Deb, Anne (Mark), Monica, Melissa (Rhonda) and Robert (Kristy); his great grandchildren, Kelly, Tiffany (Eric), Jacob Wilbur, Jillian (Joel), Carissa, Anthony, Helena, Andrew, Robert D., Arwyn, Alexander, with one on the way; his great-great grandchildren, Zane, Aliceya, Zander and Lawson; sister-in-law, Barbara Rupp; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends, Delbert, Dean, Bob Jr. and Norm. 

 

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife and five siblings, Blanche, Chuck, Lois, Margaret and Paul.

 

A Mass of Christian Burial was held Friday, Dec. 15, at 11 a.m., at St. Gabriel’s Church of the Holy Family Parish in Prairie du Chien, with burial in the Gays Mills Cemetery in Gays Mills. Military honors were accorded graveside. The Garrity Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien is assisting the family.
