An area man faces numerous charges in Crawford County after impaired driving was observed Dec. 9, according to the sheriff’s department.

On Saturday, the county K-9 unit conducted a traffic stop on a 2007 Dodge Caravan on Highway 35 in the township of Freeman. The deputy made contact with the driver, identified as Curt Tollefson, 39, of Lynxville. The deputy said he observed Tollefson show signs of impairment. A search of his person yielded several grams of marijuana, schedule 4 controlled substances and two different schedule II narcotics, for which Tollefson did not have a prescription, according to the sheriff’s department.

While speaking with Tollefson about the pills, on the side of the roadway, Tollefson grabbed the bag of narcotics out of the deputy’s hands and fled down an embankment into a field. A short pursuit on foot followed until Tollefson lost his balance. According to the deputy’s report, he continued to resist and attempted to destroy the evidence. Tollefson was eventually detained and secured in the patrol car.

Tollefson was subsequently charged for operating with a restricted controlled substance 1st offense, possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of schedule 4 controlled substance and possession of a schedule II narcotic-felony.
