Harley was united in marriage to Joyce Hemby on September 2, 2000, at St. Joseph Church in Elkader.

Harley liked his carpentry work and worked at Elkader Wire. The couple built their own home—but he refused to do the plumbing. He enjoyed softball and visiting with everybody. He was a member of the Jaycees, helped with Elkader Days and serving with the Lions club.

Harley is survived by his wife of 17 years, Joyce Patrick of Elkader; stepson David Hemby of Garnavillo; brother, Edmund (Melissa) Patrick, of Elkader; nieces, Heather Patrick, Christie Edwards; nephew, Ben Patrick; sister-in-law, Joyce Patrick of Jacksonville, FL; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan (Sue) Moser of Omaha NE, Richard Moser of Elkader, Mike (Cinda) Moser of Elkader and Rev. John Moser Lansing; uncles and aunts, Lloyd (Dianna) Patrick, John (Paula) Patrick; numerous cousins and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, and oldest brother, Gary.

A visitation was held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017, and one hour before services at Peace United Church of Christ in Elkader. A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Friday, October 27, 2017, at the church with Rev. Jon Haack officiating.
